The Xbox 360 is a solid piece of hardware and I am very happy with mine.

Speaking of longevity, I still have a first run 20GB pro console and the thing has never had any technical issues.

Weirdo. XD

Seriously, though, considering all the people I've heard being stuck on their 3rd or 4th Xbox, that's pretty surprising.

But damn...they're set to go 8 years between consoles, and it's still selling relatively well. I expect the 360 and PS3 to remain a factor years after the next gen consoles launch.

I know, I expect it to RROD every time I play a game but it just never happens. Either I got really lucky, or I got the console that was meant to go to Bill Gates himself or something.

Oh, but your stipulating 'without the release of another console' right? Surely though, when the PS4 releases this year it won't really matter? This gen will be over ... no?

Nintendo releases their console and the gen isn't over but when Sony does the gen is over? How convenient that sales from previous gens no longer matter when it fits the "Sony fans" agenda.

Ok.

Well deserve Microsoft!!

The only reason why the 360 made it this far is because Microsoft piggybacked on the PS3's success.

Sarcasm?

Microsoft will continue to support the 360 for years to come, why? turning your back on a nearly 80 million user base would be a p.r. disaster, it continues to be the leading seller in the states so people are barely signing up to the ecosystem, but the real reason is microsoft xbox live payment plan, i havent read the terms of service, i remember the fall out when it stated that they couldnt be sued, which is false you can always be sued, its just mean it can be evidence that can be used against your case, anyways as things stand microsoft would be opening themselves to a ton of lawsuits if they terminated their support for the 360 while consumers are still under contract and i think they would win. When microsoft stop offering the deal for the 360 then maybe it is safe to assume the end is near.

Funny, the way I see it - the console is already dead for MS. Last year was so bad, Halo 4 was the last big game it got and they just moved on after it. Well, there still is GoW: Judgement, but it's outsourced, so it really isn't as huge as the previous parts. The X360 support from MS is already gone, MS is not Sony. Better accept it.

we disagree on the definition of support i believe it is server support, os updates, and licensing you apparently believe it is only first party publishing, as you have stated the x360 support from MS is already gone, so lets make a bet, ill bet you we will still see exclusive first party games on the xbox360 even after the release of microsoft next system. down?

Depends on how we define longevity here. While it is impressive, it's not going to live as long as PS2. Sony keeps supporting their last consoles even after releasing their newer ones.

It doesnt depend really does it.  It's already done 8 years.  With just 2 years of legacy support it will have notched up 10.  Its inevitable really that it will have been supported for between 10 and 12 years by its death.

Well you never know what Microsoft has in mind but it's possible they'll stop supporting X360 and focus on their next console. But even if it stops now, the Xbox still did a great job living that long.

Raven in Tales of Vesperia was a great character.

OT: I think the 360 can get to 10 years of support. And the current 8 is a far cry from the 4 or 5 years people though it would last.

Ok.

They're not my sentiments, they're the sentiments of 360 owners when discussing when the PS3 will catch up to the 360.

The PS5 Exists.

We have Kinect and the enhanced multimedia functions of the dashboard to thank for the longevity.   360 software on the other hand has been stale for a few years now, in my opinion.

I'm switching to PS4 for my next-gen system. I don't want a Kinect and I have no use for an expensive cable box.
