Forums - Microsoft - if kinect never came out

I recently noticed that 360 sales dropped slightly from 2008 to 2009 then exploded in 2010 when kinect released. What if it was never created? I think sales would have continued to slowly drop and next box would have been released in 2011-12, also wii sales likely wouldnt have plummeted as quickly and ps3 would probably be 3-5 million units ahead of 360 at this point.

It would've made Microsoft focus more on the games just like the old times (2006-2009)

If Kinect never came out, i would probably have a WiiU.

They might have given the console a big price cut, or come out with a new console. Probably try the first and then see how it worked.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

Somehow I feel this topic has already been discussed...

It has.

Price cut would have come a lot sooner, possibly more core orientated games and I doubt the sales would have dropped too much. They would have thought of something else to capture the casuals. Sony had Move and more obviously the Wii had... The Wii so M$ would have been forced to match in some way.

The 360 would be selling about as much as the Wii is right now if not for Kinect.

I have the feeling that the author wanted to imply that kinect saved MS, other intentions come to my mind but I don't want to guess wildly. Still, speculative talking about current gen is as useful as the testicles of the pope...

If Kinect never came out it would have saved me 150 bucks.

The success of Kinect (at least in regards to their relationship to 360 success) is hugely overrated. Sure the peripherals themselves sold a lot at first, but I think a lot of that were current 360 owners. The fad has dropped off quickly since then. You can now buy a used Kinect on amazon with Kinect Adventures for $54.

I don't know anyone who got a 360 just for Kinect and I don't think too many did. I think much of 360's resurgence around 2010 was mostly thanks to Halo 3, the explosion of the Call of Duty franchise, the console redesign, and price drop.

At the end of the day, games are what sell hardware, and this includes peripherals like Kinect, and to say this peripheral has a weak lineup of games is a huge understatement. What exactly are all these stellar kinect games that sold 360s?
