the lack of common sense, and logic in this thread is horrible. I'm seriously pretty amazed at the ps3 fanboys on this site. I haven't seen it this bad in a long time.

I can't believe how many people are saying yes to this.

And I thought John Lucas was crazy.

At most the PS3 will last 7 years like the PS2... and that's only if it suddenly starts setting the charts on fire some time in the next year and a half.

I'd say it's not even a gurantee that it'll hit 50 million.

big difference PS2 was only availible in Japan for almost all of 2000, it wasn't October and November that it launched in NA and europe, but PS3 was in all regions for most of 2007 and yet it sales did not ignite even with sizable price drops

So what, ps2 sales doesn`t disturb ps3 to reach 100 mln.
PS3 is better then PS2 in all ways. Why it should sell less? Just because of 12-14 mln. REAL x360 owners?
or maybe because of Wii, which can`t offer HD gaming and appeal to different people?
i see MANY PSWii owners in this generation, and MUCH less Wii60.

Personally, I don't think it is realistic to expect more than a 25% improvement year-over-year in sales from any not supply constrained console that has been released in all regions; if the PS3 improved its sales by 25% every year it would finally hit 100 Million units in 2013.

If you assume this pattern of growth for the PS3 (which is a lot like most non-dominant console lifecycles):

2008: 10% improvement over 2007
2009: 10% improvement over 2008
2010: 10% reduction from 2009
2011: 25% reduction from 2010
2012: 75% reduction from 2011

The PS3 will break 40 Million units by 2013.

You totally miss read the point of my post.

I don't think PS3 will ever reach 100mil.

I am almost certain it will not beat the wii this generation.

The Wii deserves to win. It is the most inovative console ever made.

I was simply stating that the market can change, and therefore is unpredictable.

I also do not think the PS3 will last 10 years, and if you read my post properly, i said if the PS3 had a 'suprisingly long life'. PS2 looks as if it could reach the 10 year milestone, but the PS3 is very doubtful.
