Forums - Gaming - How Sony could screw up the PS4 Launch

Sony has done EVERYTHING right so far. Everyone is excited for the PS4. As a Sony fan, I hope they continue to sail smoothly until launch day, but here are some possibly bad scenerios.

1. Not releasing the PS4 in North America in 2013.

You might be thinking "that would never happen"..... but that exact thing happened with the PS Vita recently. It came out December in Japan and Jan/Feb in NA and EU. This would be a huge mistake.

2. $599 Dollars.

I seriously doubt this will happen. My prediction is that there will be a $399 Sku and a $499 Sku Bundled w/ Killzone:Shadowfall.

3. Mandatory Subscription for Online Play.

I also doubt this will happen. There have been some rumors. But most likely, they will retain FREE online play with a Premium-Subscription model for all the extra features they added.

4. GT6 releases this holiday season..... on PS3.

It seems likely this will happen. How could Sony and Polyphony be so stupid? I dont know.... they're the same guys who allowed GT5 to get delayed so many times. PD is obviously not a well-managed company, and Sony for some reason doesn't check up on them.

GT6 on PS3 would significantly hurt PS4 exclusive DriveClub's sales. Hardcore GT fans will have no reason to buy a PS4, as their favorite game will still be on PS3.

It might be a cross-gen release. Even that is a silly move since it wont help sell PS4's, but its better than only being on PS3.

Why does everybody think the PS4 will cost $400? 8 GB of high quality RAM isn't going to come cheap. Neither will the likely tens or hundreds of Gigabytes of internal memory. And unlike in 2006, Sony doesn't have cash to burn selling a system at a loss.

All of your points are very unlikely. Yay!

Ugly console should be a potential problem though. I'm hearing lots of people will not buy it unless it matches their carpet.

Sony Flexible on PlayStation 4 Cost

Point 4 shows a part of what could be one of their main problems; people keeping their PS3's instead of upgrading. Wii U didn't have this problem since the Wii's support had been severely lacking for years already which compelled people to upgrade in order to get new content. The Wii U also features full backwards compatibility which makes it possible to save money by selling the Wii after buying a Wii U. Potential PS4 owners will need to keep their PS3's, and if Sony keeps supporting that system that might be enough to keep them from upgrading.

(Because it's pretty much confirmed that PS4 won't be backwards compatible, right?)

They can sell at a loss, and make that money back on accessory sales (Controller, Headset, Move) and games.

Oh, and from PS+ Subscriptions.

I think they're waiting on MS to announce their price first, and then match it. They dont want to announce the price and then get undercut, but they also dont want to price it cheaper than they have to.

MS next Xbox will probably be $400 with some sort of Arcade SKU that is $300... I think PS4 will be $400 and $500 Sku's.

@JoeTheBro ....some of them could happen. Dont forget, this is the same company that missed XMas in North America with the VITA. The same company that allowed so many delays on GT5.

Yes. They should make something similar to PSV memory card. That's the greatest idea ever to get back some of the loses.

Thank god Nintendo is doing the same thing.
