https://twitter.com/OptimistPanda/statuses/380730828067983360 Not sure if anyone else saw this, but it looks like one of Bethesda's writers has joined Sony Santa Monica for one of their projects. Though I'm not sure which one. I know Stig Asmussen is working on a rather big project at the moment but I do remember Cory Barlog posting in his blog about coming back that he is trying to put together some amazing team for a huge project he is heading. What do you think is more likely? This writer joining a game that is probably well into development and already confirmed as having some writers, including someone who has done work for the Battlestar Galactica remake, or joining up for Santa Monica's second project that probably has just barely begun development?

i really hope they are a two team studio now, and that cory barlog is working on a different project than stig. imagine two new IP's from SSM this gen that are both "huge" projects?
im loving that sony is making their studios become two team studios and expanding them. theoritcally by the end of this gen we should have 4 games from GG, naughty dog and santa monica because they are two team studios now. insane.

They may be able to go beyond that for large, internally developed projects. When Naughty Dog was a one-team studio they made three games for the PS3 and after the split one of those teams had enough time to make a fourth game for the console. Within one generation, assuming the same 7 to 8 year span, it is entirely possible to have as many as six games from them for the PS4 if they can keep up that rate of development. Guerrilla Games might have actually had time to create more than two games for the PS3 but development on Killzone 2 was delayed from what I heard. There is also a rumor that Sucker Punch may be expanding to a two-team studio very soon. There was an interview, and for the life of me I can't remember by who, where I believe it was Nate Fox who was asked if Sucker Punch was going to expand and he said, "No comment". I think the question was initially raised because there were hints that an Infamous for the Vita was being planned. It's probably only a matter of time before we hear rumors of Media Molecule expanding though I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Barlog's project is almost certainly different than Asmussen's. The way he described his goals for returning to Santa Monica seemed to make it pretty clear that the project he has in mind had not even started yet because he didn't seem to have any kind of team created at that point. He was still looking to put together some badass crew. On the other hand, the game that Asmussen is doing already had a lot of people in on the project and it sounded like they had already started development. Not to mention, both Barlog and Asmussen are pegged as directors. I cannot imagine that either of them would be comfortable being underneath someone else at this point. These guys are going to want to have their own projects going and it certainly falls in line with what Sony has been striving for. Making their current studios bigger and producing more internally developed large projects instead of still relying a great deal on partnerships that may not last and not trying to outright buy studios. That being said, I'm still willing to bet that if Beyond and The Order do well, both Quantic Dream and Ready At Dawn will get serious approaches from Sony for acquisition. David Cage has already stated an interest in the past of Quantic Dream being bought if things felt right and Ready At Dawn already has a near exclusive history with Sony and is anticipating making The Order a franchise for PlayStation.
