Two games from the newly announced batch are high on my wishlist, Apotheon and Drifter. I'm just afraid that a space sim will be a heavy time-sink :-/
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
Guerilla Games Managing Director Hermen Hulst took to Twitter today to tease Killzone Shadow Fall fans with a glimpse of the upcoming multiplayer map called Canyon.
This is the first official announcement of this map. However, observant Killzone Shadow Fallplayers noticed this new map last week.
From the Killzone Shadow Fall wiki:
“It has been discovered that when loading up a match and looking at the game mode details, the new map can be found listed alongside the others, and will be called “The Canyon.”
No word yet on when this map will be available so stay tuned until we find out more.
We know by now that Quantic Dream is working on a new PS4 game, and today the developer posted a new career opportunity ad seeking a Senior 3D animator.
What’s really interesting in the ad is that between the responsibility of said animator there will be keyframing everything that isn’t motion captured, including “animals, monsters, stunts and vehicles.”
This is the first time that monsters are mentioned in relation to Quantic Dream’s future production, and it’s easy to wonder if this doesn’t mean that the studio has decided to turn the spectacular The Dark Sorcerer demo into an actual game.
The mention of vehicles seems to conflict with that idea, but we should remember that the demo actually featured a modern setting.
That said, there could be several other possibilities. Previous hints also point to a sci-fi setting, and that definitely has the potential to fit both monsters and vehicles in the same scenario.
Ultimately, another small piece has been added to the puzzle, that we’ll possibly see on showcase at E3 in little over a month. If you need a refresher on what The Dark Sorcerer is, you can check it out just below.
The newly promoted Driveclub Game Director Paul Rustchynsky, promised great Driveclub gameplay footage, and apparently he was dead serious. So serious that Sony is actually hiring a professional specifically for that purpose, as showcased by a new career opportunity ad seeking a Video Producer & Editor for Evolution Studio.

Considering the timing, it’s obvious that Sony wants to make up for the lost time with a visual overload showcasing Driveclub‘s lovely graphics. This is actually the first time, at least to my knowledge, that Sony hires a video editor specifically for a single title.
Looks like we’re in for a few visual treats down the line, and I’m sure I’m not the only one quite curious to see just how spectacular the trailer showcased on stage at E3 will be.
Earlier today we uncovered three clues about the theme of the next generation Call of Dutygame to be released by Activision this year, but another hint has now appeared on the official teaser site, in the form of another clickable dot.
This time around we get a “documentary” video talking about the private military companies that will most probably play a central role in the new title.
You can check it out just below if you want to learn more. It’s yet unclear what role the PMCs will play in the new game, but it’s definitely an interesting twist.
Sony Computer Entertainment finally provided a way to dim the much controversial light of the DualShock 4 with Firmware update 1.7, but just how bright is each setting? Beyond3D forum user djskribbles took it upon itself to actually measure the intensity of the light in each setting, and here are the results:
____________
Measured the light bar on each different setting. I used a colorimeter and a spectrometer which are typically used for color calibration on displays, but they also measure luminance/light. They’re probably not 100% accurate compared to a dedicated light meter, but they should be close enough. I averaged the readings with a continuous measurement between both meters.
Standard/Bright – ~37.9 candelas per squared meter (or 11.06 foot lamberts)
Medium – ~21.8 candelas per squared meter (or 6.36 foot lamberts) – 42.5% dimmer
Dim – ~11.8 candelas per squared meter (or 3.44 foot lamberts) – 68.9% dimmer
So my guesses of ~60% and ~40% lower were pretty close.
For comparison, generally ISF/THX calibrators calibrate flatpanel displays to have a peak white measurement of 30-35 foot lamberts for a dark home theater environment. VA LCD panels usually have a black level measurement between 0.012 – 0.014 foot lamberts. IPS LCD panels usually have a black level measurement between 0.04 – 0.05 foot lamberts.
____________
If you want to know how much glare each setting could cause on the screen if you sit close enough (which is pretty much the point of contention), NeoGAF user Shin-Ra took some interesting pictures, that you can see below, comparing each setting in different conditions.
Bright (on the same color, bright room)
Medium (on the same color, bright room)
Dim (on the same color, bright room)

Shin-Ra specified that the pictures were taken sitting at the usual distance for a computer monitor, so if you sit far away from a big TV, you’re going to see the glare much less, if at all. His gaming TV has a high gloss finish with no glass covering.
Personally, the light never really bothered me, but now we know exactly how bright it is. What we don’t know is whether Sony will make further adjustments with upcoming firmware updates, but for the moment this is what we got.
Awesomenauts Assemble! was a pretty great version of the original game, but it had some unfortunate issues that held it back from total greatness. Developers Ronimo and Abstraction Games have taken note of this and are working on improving the base game as well as bringing over all fixes implemented to the PC version as well as the first chunks of the Starstorm expansion. This means that the latest new characters Ted McPain and Penny Fox will be coming to PS4 soon.
The small issues haven’t held back from the game becoming a commercial success, however, reaching the third spot on the best sellers list for March. It can be purchased for $9.99 via PSN.
