My 3D model of a guitar so far.  Feel free to comment on it, rip it apart, etc.  Still has some work left I have to do and there a couple things I probably will change.

Looks nice.

The curved edge around the body looks odd though. Would adding a small fillet fix that?

And yeah that's one thing I'm gonna work on.  I'm gonna ask my professor what's best to do there. Because since it's a Les Paul guitar it has a bit of a bevel there.  He said something about converting the body to polygons and then merging.  And I'm not sure how I'm gonna go about merging them.  I could merge vertices, but that would take a long time since they are gonna be high poly objects so they are smooth.  And I found the best way to convert them to polys is to match render tesselation since I can enable advanced render tesselation to get a nice smooth body.

Looks good to me. What was you're source material?

Thanks.  And he gave us this: guitars.zip

Photos of Les Paul and stratocaster guitars.  I chose to do the Les Paul

Link may not work though since it's from my school website. Never tried it before like this.

Figures

Anyway I used these as my main references.  There were a few others for like the knobs and that stuff on the body.

I think around 5-6 hours so far for that.  I get side tracked so easy so it might have been longer than that. lol

Probably have another hour or so to finish it.

That's not too bad i guess.

I just did a blender tutorial of a glass cup and napkin. I just hit the render button and my computer about to explode! It doesn’t like me right now...

What type of rig do i need for this? I think it's going to take all night to render, so I’ll let it run while i sleep. I'll post it tomorrow. But it's nothing big. Might take you like 20 mins to do.

I use a 2011 macbook to do a lot of modeling and it usually renders fine. Blender wasn't to bad either. But I also have a desktop with i7 3770k 3.4ghz and gtx 680 that I use to texture, model big scenes, and render everything I do. Suckers pretty fast with this stuff.

What specs are in your computer?
