PS4 bundling the PS Eye soooo. Think some people are really overestimating the costs of Kinect here.
To play online for a year plus the console I'm sure it will.
EDIT : I wouldn't mind paying for live if it was per console, not this per account BS
Well let's see.
The CPU is the same.
The GPU is very close and likely to not be any difference in cost when you consider the embedded ram on nxbox.
The ram is probably 1/3 of the cost or 1/4 as its DDR3 vs GDDR5, so there is savings there.
Everything else is primarily the same. Both will have Bluray, HDD, PSU, wireless-n, ethernet, usb3.0, and other casing requirements.
So consoles will be really close in cost.
MS will likely have a far lower priced controller as they won't be including a touchpad or motion tracking of any sort. Probably just a different ergonomic style.
So at this point you have PS4 having a higher cost than nxbox. But now you add in their respective camera systems.
PS4 simply has a dual camera. It is better cameras that previous pseye and of course two of them. That's about it. It won't have all the other tech to be as finite in 3D space as Kinect2. So Kinect2 will have a significant cost above the new PSEye.
Once you add that into the mix its very easy to assume nxbox will definitely cost more in raw components than PS4. However, that doesn't mean the retail price won't be identical or so close it won't matter and only come down to bundled games and other offers.
I say both will launch $400 to $500. Pretty much what I've figured for years now. I only dropped as low as $350 due to rumors over the last six months, but I think its safe to say it won't be below $400 unless it comes with some kind of contract and/or loses the packaged in camera systems.
Wow Pachter going out on a limb per usual. Might cost more. Might not.

If the the rumors are true about Kinect 2.0 then expect it to cost a hell of lot more than the PS Eye.

How do you know what Kinect2 is? I really would like to know because I have not seen anything about how Kinect2 works. The only thing we know is that Primesense tehcnology is not in Kinect2.
My current suspicion is the following:
Sony has two 1280*800 (720?) cameras with parallax software to calculate body depth info (and standard Move software to track the dildo).
MS has one hires 1920*1080 camera and one IR camera (500*400 something) with parallax software to calculate body depth (from the IR stream because that is room illumination neutral).
Both systems have roughly the same load on data transfer. MS has higher xy-resolution for face/body part recognition than Sony, while Sony has higher xy-resolution on the depth field.
Both systems cost the same, hardware wise, because it's just two cameras in the end.
What did Microsoft add into the xbox to compensate for low bandwidth, could that cost much?.. either way they can afford to price the console for what they like if it comes down to it
Wasnt pacther's last so called prediction a ps3 price cut on the 20th? Oh yea it was the opposite. Great work Michael!

Kinect2 has FAR better cameras than kinect1.
Kinect2 has enhanced microphones.
Kinect2 has far better tech to allow up to 6 (not 2) registerable players.
Kinect2 can be as finite as understanding finger movement, unlike Kinect1.
Kinect2 is an overall large upgrade to the original. The original still has a cost at retail of $100. Its parts are like at least half that in the $50 range.
There is no way it doesn't cost at least 2x more than the new PSeye which may have the same mic, but definitely doesn't have the same cameras or even the same number of cameras (2 vs 3) and additionaly none of the of the rest of the internal tech.
Additionally the hardware between the two is not the same.
Sony is using GDDR5 ram which costs a hell of a lot more thand DDR3.
Sony is also using a higher end GPU and will have a slight cost higher for that.
MS is using embedded ram which will likely make the GPU overall cost about the same.
However, in the end, Kinect2's cost is going to outstrip the cost of the GDDR5 ram and therefore its safe to assume nxbox cost of materials will be higher than Sony's.
