How do you know what Kinect2 is? I really would like to know because I have not seen anything about how Kinect2 works. The only thing we know is that Primesense tehcnology is not in Kinect2. My current suspicion is the following: Sony has two 1280*800 (720?) cameras with parallax software to calculate body depth info (and standard Move software to track the dildo). MS has one hires 1920*1080 camera and one IR camera (500*400 something) with parallax software to calculate body depth (from the IR stream because that is room illumination neutral). Both systems have roughly the same load on data transfer. MS has higher xy-resolution for face/body part recognition than Sony, while Sony has higher xy-resolution on the depth field. Both systems cost the same, hardware wise, because it's just two cameras in the end. |
Kinect2 has FAR better cameras than kinect1.
Kinect2 has enhanced microphones.
Kinect2 has far better tech to allow up to 6 (not 2) registerable players.
Kinect2 can be as finite as understanding finger movement, unlike Kinect1.
Kinect2 is an overall large upgrade to the original. The original still has a cost at retail of $100. Its parts are like at least half that in the $50 range.
There is no way it doesn't cost at least 2x more than the new PSeye which may have the same mic, but definitely doesn't have the same cameras or even the same number of cameras (2 vs 3) and additionaly none of the of the rest of the internal tech.
Additionally the hardware between the two is not the same.
Sony is using GDDR5 ram which costs a hell of a lot more thand DDR3.
Sony is also using a higher end GPU and will have a slight cost higher for that.
MS is using embedded ram which will likely make the GPU overall cost about the same.
However, in the end, Kinect2's cost is going to outstrip the cost of the GDDR5 ram and therefore its safe to assume nxbox cost of materials will be higher than Sony's.
