That's true, but wouldn't January and February still have been pretty barren? There's some multiplat Nintendo could have needed...

Yeah, but relative to the other systems, it probably would have been able to keep up in sales at least instead of being at the 30k per week range.

Probably. But I still think it goes to show that Nintendo didn't learn the important lesson with the 3DS launch.

I think the point is much more clear with the Wii U, given that the price isn't over-inflated.  Nintendo most likely was just assuming games like Nintendo Land and NSMBU were going to keep the system afloat during the relatively slow months.

However, I do not really know how possible it would have been to release amazing games within the time frame unless they planned for it since before the 3DS launch.  But either way, if Nintendo was paying attention they should be able to do better when the next opportunity presents itself.  Which is pretty much every day before the other consoles launch.

why am I forced to watch Serious Sam 3? :(

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Yeah, I think the price is pretty fair for what you get, so they got that right. They could have dithched the Basic kit though... NO ONE is buying that :P Could have released that one with Wii Fit U

The system really feels rushed. Day One update, slow OS, few games... I understand that they wanted to be first one out, but they messed up several things in the process.

"Where were the exclusive at launch? Last I can remember was N64 (Super Mario 64)."

Dismisses Wii Sports because it was bundled. Goes back to N64. Forgets about Smash Bros. Melee, Rogue Squadron 2, Luigi's Mansion, and Super Monkey Ball for the GameCube.

That's exactly what I was thinking when he started talking about prior launch line-ups.  He completely dismissed GameCube's launch, which as you describe, is arguably the strongest launch line-up a Nintendo system has ever had.  All four of those games (plus Pikmin) were released by early December, in just the two or three weeks following GameCube's launch day.  I'm surprised he skipped all of that and just focused on N64's one AAA launch game.  To me, GameCube's lineup of those four of five games absolutely trumps Mario 64, regardless of the nostalgia some of the older folks here have of that game (me included).

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I think everyone needs to keep quiet until we see launches of both PS4 and Nextbox.
Im expecting around the same start for both of those consoles, the 7th gen is still strong and that is what will hurt next gen sales. It wont be until around a year or two that the sales of 8th Gen start going strong and hitting big numbers.

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

I suggest you watch it, because with the exception that he doesn't know shit about when Nintendo consoles launched with a system seller it's a good watch with valid points. And he's no fan boy. He insisted for the longest of time that PS720 would only be a minor upgrade over the Wii U - and not leaving it in the dust as it seems likely right now.

I watched the whole thing, but know that this was the last time I trusted you. The bolded is exactly what makes him a fanboy. Or an idiot. Make your pick.

About his only valid point is that Nintendo messed up with the Wii U, but anyone could tell you that after seeing the sales numbers. His suggestions for solutions come down to "Nintendo should have made another GameCube" and this is a clear indicator for idiocy. How did hardware parity work out for the GC? Third parties started to abandon the thing after a couple of years, provided they were making games for it in the first place.

He also said: "If Nintendo had made an HD Zelda for launch, they would have an installed base of 10-15m." - Another indicator for strong fanboyism or severe brain damage, because he is suggesting that people who have no interest in Zelda would have bought the system as well. And he seemed to be talking like he meant 10-15m right now.

This video is pretty much the reason why I don't watch videos. With articles you can quickly jump to other points once you notice that you are dealing with drivel. With videos and podcasts you are doomed to wait and hope that there might be one good point buried somewhere.

In what way would this make him a fan boy? I don't really see how this would make him a fan boy... A Nintendo fan boy? Is that what you're talking about?

And I really do agree that making a new GC wouldn't be a smart move, but we gotta remember that Wii U is no Wii either. And I do think the system would have sold better if it had launched with a Zelda title instead of NSMBU.

Blimey, Rol made a good counter-points on how Rich said about his arguments (I noticed them too, but really didn't tear him down on them), he may have good arguments on Nintendo's way to make a comeback (and in the past), but the ones he choose was really not a solid one at that.

I guess Danne and I really are too soft on most gamers these days... XD
