Forums - Microsoft - Square's Ian Livingstone talks next-gen; hints at always-on, used game-blocking Xbox

If these rumours are so prevalent that MS's own devs believe them, MS needs to come out and deny them. They are extremely damaging in light of confirmation that PS4 will not. We are far past the 'we do not comment...' stage of PR.

The fact they have not done this increases the likelihood they are true.

What one/s of MS's dev teams have hinted this?

I mean, those who are developing for the platform, i.e. the people MS wants to keep happy about the console's prospects. (Square)

Neither would bother me tbh. Never buy used (well I think I have twice in 20 years) and am always online anyway. Isn't everyone always online?

Shouldn't you be worried more about the bad PR and image this kind of manuever would create?

Why would I care about that?

Aren't you more about business?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I don't think it will come 2 pass, Microsoft are not that stupid surely.

Check out my Youtube channel : http://www.youtube.com/user/ThePSXcollector

I can't believe Microsoft really do this, especially the always-on internet thing is a absolutely stupid idea. They know that millions of gamers including me would not support this, they would loose millions of customers with such a stupide move especially because Sony ps4 wont require always-on. It would be just insane if Microsoft make this happen.

You are absolutely right customers including me starting to get slowly worried that there might be really some truth behinde this rumors, they need to comment this if not it will damage the image of their next console.

i wouldn't care because i buy my games only new and only sell them when they are worth nothing anymore lol. but it's not about people like me, it's to prevent people who do that to sell them and many of them would probably not buy a nextbox anymore if they would still have the possibility on ps4 and wii u.

microsoft shouldn't do that as long as at least sony won't do it as well. since sony said something like "it's up to the publishers to use that possibility" i think microsoft will handle it like sony.

I never bought used games either, but I do play games on more than one system and occasionally me and my friends switch games. And about the online, what if my internet disconnects for some reason. I really think that Microsoft doing that would be suicide.

So all you guys that are "worried", if MS confirms this to be untrue in say, a month, is it still a problem?

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

i think microsoft has a good idea through their own xbox live data how many consoles they sold, how many people are online and how many are always online with the console (as example they may get data if someone earned achievements without being online).

so yeah, if they would do that i think they know it doesn't affect many but it would surely affect me because i have a lot of connection problems and i wouldn't like to stop singleplayer from time to time because of that.
