Because there were better RPGs in the market l0l

Are you insulting xenoblade?

I'm putting a spell on you!!!

xenoblade may of been good but when compared to the great RPGs of yesteryears, its a far cry - same with ni no kuni.

Please list better RPG's.  Curious to see what you consider top tier RPG's.

In terms of quality - From the previous generations on the ones I have played/own - there are far more that I have yet to play.

Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XII
Kingdom Hearts
Star Ocean Till the End of Time
Dragon Quest VIII
Tales of Symphonia
Xenosaga Episode I

If you want to discuss by sales it speaks for itself on the sheer volume.

Even the crappy games like X-men legends sold almost 2 mil compared to the most sold RPGs of this generation - a sign of the RPG genre or the jRPG genre going down in the shitter literally this gen.

Edit: I'm not saying both of the games are bad, I'm just saying there were better RPGs out in the market last gen than they are now which was my main point.

Let's say your opinion on games is absolute for arguments sake and all those games you listed are better quality games.

Now are you telling me that Ni No Kuni and Xenoblade sold poorly because those games were on the market?  Where people buying those games instead of Ni No Kuni in 2011?  Were the people still replaying or playing those games in 2011, and that is why they passed up on bying Ni No Kuni and Xenoblade?

Why did you list 100% PS2 games?  What do RPG's from 8 years ago have to do with sales of an RPG 1 year ago?

The newest game you listed was from 2008 (sales list), don't you think that people want more games as the years progress?

Hence why I said "Last Generation" - again I have stated in another post if you want something more close to current gen would have to look at PSP and NDS rpg sales which again outsell Xenoblade (in terms of sales).

Yes, I understand that you said that, but people don't buy these games anymore, they are old. So why would they affect xenoblade and ni no kuni so much. While the fact that the genre have fallen behind in the wii, ps360 gen, the games were hailed as the best of it's genre, and that should have had at least some kind of effect.

I didnt say my opinion was absolute, you asked me what games I considered to be better (which would end up being a opinion regardless) so I answered.

First Question - What? lol

Second Question - Ni No Kuni is a remake of the NDS game so yes more people were buying other RPGs than a remake of a game that is available on the market for cheaper.

Third Question - I wouldnt be able to tell you that but I can tell you I was :)

I listed PS2 games because my original post was saying that the RPGs of yesteryear (I assumed this meant last gen) were far better than this gen. Again I can list you PSP/NDS games that came out a year before Xenoblade and one that came out in Japan only on the same year that sold as better as Xenoblade.

Edit: Holy shit I triple posted - I am gonna get banned T.T

I just made your opinons be absolute so we didn't have to argue about if "x" is better than "y"

The reason I'm wondering why you listed ps2 games was this topic is about one thing only.  Why these two games sold poorly.

Obviously they did not sell poorly because of FFX on the PS2.  or any other game you can list on the ps2.

Now I can understand Ni No Kuni having poor sales due to it being a port of sorts, that is a legitimate reason.  But FFX, Kingdom hearts, ect from your list have nothing to do with this topic.

Xenoblade broke 100k over there, didn't it? Quite respectable for a smaller market

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Didnt say they affected the sales - I'm just saying people might not see these RPGs as great as they did other RPGs in the past and therefore move onto other things, if they didnt why arent the sales as good as they should be.

When a sequel to one of the worst Final Fantasies sell more than these two games....you know something is off lol. (Not saying FFXIII-2 is bad, but you know how many sequels to bad games sell over a mil? Not many).

Well, for the first part, the thread is after all about sales XD. The bolded part is smething I also said in my previous post, but at least xenoblade was given the title as best jrpg in years by wery many. Don't you think that a few might have tried to get back into the genre when these games came out?

Japan is a very big market for jrpg's. When the general market in the west says that the two games are the best games in they genre for years, and they still don't sell more than that in Japan, at least I start wondering. Didn't the japanese like the games at all?

That would be the obvious response and the interest is there - demand is there however I dont think (at least in Xenoblade's case) supply isnt.

Ni No Kuni is too early to say (in the west) however in Japan it wont go up any more than it is now.

I doubt there is supply for xenoblade still, it's been 3 years since it launced.

Yeah that is what I am saying XD

I think people will more than likely wait for digital Wii copies on the Wii-U, a potential multiplat release on the 3DS/Wii-U HD or just emulate it on the Dolphin/pirate it on the Modified Wiis.

Half off-topic statement: Xenoblade was pirated around 1 mill. times in the us. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457318

Yep blame Nintendo for that - since they gave up on security updates since 2010 (a full blown 2 years before the Wii-U came out, just to show you how serious they treat their hardware).

And they made the americans believe that they would never get the game. Sublime thinking...

Maybe because they don't have Anime style characters and it isn't a FF or DQ game? I honestly don't know lol.

Have you seen Ni NO Kuni.

It's the very definition of anime style

I'm referring more to modern type of anime style. The Ni No Kuni style is more like the 80's and 90's
