Forums - Gaming - Hypocrisy

I find it amusing that before the PS4 reveal we had topics here discussing the need for better gameplay, better stories, better immersion, better games as a whole.

The PS4 reveal happened and all of a sudden we have a million topics about whose balls are shinier (not those sort of balls, do not ban me on a whim). Doesn't it seem just a bit hypocritical that once the arms race has started again, everyone seems to not give a damn except for graphics?

Has anyone actually watched the Media Molecule presentation? Not really graphic heavy, but it presented a concept that could mean so very much in so many fields. Imagine that tool completely defined, perfected and set up for the market. Imagine animators working with it - like that silly little video of theirs -, imagine students integrating it alongside heavy duty CAD software. Imagine all sorts of posibilities that tool could open up once if it's ever out and doing the things they said it could do.

Infamous: Second Son had some good ideas in that short trailer, some very good story related ideas. Nobody cares. Nobody cares about a game where the idea presented is that the price of security may be the complete supression of any extraordinary individual.

How fun would a game like Burnout Paradise be when you pull off the most incredible stunts or crashes, upload them to your video feed and dare friends to do the same, or even one up you. A gimmick with potential. You could actually build a game around it, sort of like the Hitman custom missions, to create opportunities, share with friends and improve upon the ideas of others.

Imagine Home as a type of Who Dun It? mystery where each player may in turn be a killer or a police officer. Imagine online MMOs with a crime motif where players could investigate one another, determine guilt or innocence, share evidence or bribes...a bit creepy, but wouldn't that be something novel?

Lots of things to imagine and to digest.

But everyone seems to care about whether Crysis 3 on absurd details or Killzone Shadow Fall looks shinier.

I never got around to posting in the disappointments thread but if I were, I could only say that I was truly disappointed in the gaming comunity and what it has become.

So many things to imagine and to explore, so much potential for new and exciting things, and we're wasting time discussing which game looks better.

Just something to ponder about.

4:30 AM. I think my grammar slipped in a few places. I apologize for that.

Edit:

I realize this may be a bit aimless, so I'm adding this in here: do try and imagine new things that we could see in the future, or things you would like to see. We'll all get tired of being super soldiers eventually...

I find graphics important, I like them, but I agree with all the points you brought up. I'm very excited for what the PS4 will bring to next gen. I can't wait.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Probably one of the best threads in a long time. I am guilty of this myself.

Nintendo and PC gamer

A very good thread. I believe there is a "Clapping Black and White Man in Cinema" GIF to be inserted here.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Kind of like all the cool opportunities that can be presented with the use of the Wii U Gamepad, yet look how badly other "fanboys" slammed on that. People need to spend more time enjoying their games and spend less time hating on what others have.

Stop hating and start playing.

The whole Media Molecule thing didn't impress me because you can use a pressure sensitive pen and tablet with Zbrush to do profession 3D modeling that makes the Move look like a joke. It's fine for gamers who like to play with stuff like that, but it's not a revolution in 3D modeling. The animation part of it was about as basic as animation can get and often looks more awkward than a teenage giraffe with braces.

As for the whole graphics thing. There really wasn't much story in Sony's presentation. They did talk a lot about graphics so that's what people took away from the show and that's what they are talking about. I wouldn't say it's hypocrisy that people want better stories and gameplay and still want great graphics. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

its all about the games. and they brought the games.

And yet you don't see anyone actually discussing what this new console could bring us. It's graphics again, in the detriment of everything else.

On the ZBrush thing, a single user licence will set you back 700$ as I see it on their site. Sure, you can probably get access to it cheaper via student benefits or whatnot, but it would still be relatively expensive for home use. The Media Molecule thing is not a revolution, but it's an open posibility that should get more support and interest than it has.

It's because of dat ram. We are literally suprised.

not many will see this thread (and normally when i say that more people start posting so) but i've avoided 90% of those threads for the very reasons posted in the op.

there have been many a time when i knocked someone into the corner on FNR3 where it was so funny, i wish i'd had a share button, cause dudes leg wouldn't stop twitching. or a boxers ass bounced 30 times before the 10 count cut scene, or i knocked the boxer into the corner, and he just sat their.
