Forums - Sales - USA Pre-Order Chart 16th Feb 2013

By the end of the year, the PS3 software sales will pass the Wii's and by next year, the DS's.

I think The Last of Us is massively overtracked and God of War; Ascension is massively undertracked. Vgchartz's estimates bear no correlation to online sales charts from every big retailer, Amazon, Gametop, Walmart etc. And contrary to popular game forum dwellers beliefs The Last of Us hasn't got much hype in the real world so I don't have a clue why the pre-orders are so randomly huge for the past few weeks.

http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=The%20Last%20of%20Us%2C%20God%20of%20War&date=today%2012-m&cmpt=q (past 12 months)

I'd guess GoW:A being around 325-350k now adding 25-30k last week and TLoU at 100-110K now adding 8-13k last week. I'll stick to my own estimations and instincts over Vgchartz's but we'll see when official/NPD figures surface.

I wonder if the Gears of War: Judgment boost is accurate, I've been down on the game in the past because I was hugely disappointed with Gears 3 but now I'm willing to give it a chance... when it hits the bargain bin. If it's a return to form I hope it does well.

The Last Of Us is going to have a very impressive opening (nothing under 1 million, in fact).

The Last of Us will break 2 million worldwide in the first week.  3 million or more in the first month.

I wouldn't be so optimistic. Very, very few games make a million in their first weeks. Something reserved only for Mario, CoD, Halo etc. As such, I don't see TLoU, a new IP (no matter how high the quality) coming near 2 mil FW sadly.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Wii has sold more software (on VGChartz) ;o

I said "will". Seeing that the PS3 sells around 150M units of software per year, I'd say the PS3 will pass the Wii at the end of the year.

Amazing pre-orders for TLOU :P

But I would'nt be optimistic for more than 1M WW on first week.
Only a well-known IP can do this on PS3 (for exclusive I mean) like God of War 3 ,GT5 or Uncharted 3.

Even the hype of reviews of U2, it "only" reaches 880k first week.

It would be already amazing that TLOU reaches at least 600-700k first week WW for a new IP :)

PS3 sold 127 million software last year and every year from now on it will be lower and lower.

Like somebody said a few pages back, The Last of Us could be a very important title for Sony going into next gen! Build an install base of millions on the PS3, then announce the sequel for PS4.

As always I advise caution when commenting on numbers in the pre-order thread.

Ni No Kuni had 130k pre-orders. NPD showed that it sold less than 112k in January.

So apparently nobody bought it over the counter that hadn't already pre-ordered it and 18k preorders cancelled after it launched???

I'd guess it was over-tracked in pre-orders by around 40%.

Less than 112k? I heard Ninokuni did just 112k in january.

Where did you get 127M? It's more than that. PS3 + PS2 sold 151.2M. Given that the PS2 8.9M in 2011, PS3 sales is approximately 147M.

Splitting hairs. Point remains, it was hugely overtracked in pre orders.

ioi said pre-orders for rpgs tend to be overtracked, think this is the highest opening for a jrpg this gen except for FF anyways.
