Is there really anything wrong with derailing a thread that's obvious flamebait? I've found it's a pretty effective way to discourage trolling. The troll is denied the satisfaction of becoming the center of attention as he desires. It's funny to see them trying endlessly to win back their thread only to be told "quiet, we're talking about cartoons here". Derailing troll threads is the best way to fight trolling.

Oh wait, sorry, I got off topic for a moment. Apple Jacks is my favorite cereal right now, but I kind of go in cycles. I'll buy one until I get sick of it, then move on to the next cereal in the rotation. I really need to go buy some fruity pebbles. Love the texture of that stuff.

I get where you are coming from but there are rules against derailing threads.

On topic, I live Frosted Flakes and Fruity Pebbles.

But why does that rule exist?  Certainly, the rule doesn't exist to protect threads like "Is The Wii U A Smelly Turd".  Do we enforce rules for the sake of enforcing them, or to actually make the forums a better and more enjoyable place?

On topic, I have Lucky Charms, Cheerios, Cocoa Puffs, and Frosted Flakes in the house.  Decisions, decisions.

We do enforce them to make the forums a better place.  If all of the OPs were derailed like that, then no one would ever be able to discuss anything.  These forums should be a place for people to discuss anything that they want within reason as long as they are civil about it.  Is The Wii A Smelly Turd ? thread was locked because of the OP itself and not the discussions about cereal.

Speaking of which...

It's been a while since I have had Lucky Charms.  Maybe I should get a box.

The problem i have with this though is that some threads like those should be locked in the first place.  It is obvious that that all it is going to be is argueing.  I'm cool with people having opinions but I have noticed here lately that some comments or threads are getting away with a lot.  People are presenting comments with pure anger and cursing etc and nothing happens to those people.  I know this because I report them myself.  The thread last night was not breaking any kind of rules so it was fine and i understand that but it was also obvious that he doesnt like the console so he made a thread negative about it.  I mean I could make threads like that about any of the 3 and get 100s of comments but i dont.  I dont think you guys can really do anything about that situation but I do wish people wouldnt be baited so easily.  We all have our own preferences and opinions so people need to stop acting like their opinion is the only one.

What's wrong with Raisin Bran?

Honey Smacks is awesome, Fruity Pebbles is really good too, but far less healthy. (and it might make your poop either blue or green!)

Due to Patriot Act laws, you can no longer stab boxes of breakfast foods, for you'll be dubbed a cereal killer.

I understand your concern about thread that are made to push hot button topics.  The thing is that interesting discussions are started by differences of opinion and without that, all of the threads would be rather boring.  We need differences of opinion in order to spark interesting discussion.  If everyone loves everything, than what's the point?  The problem lies when people are disrespectful to one another about their preferences.  That's when guys like I have to step in.

I should have bought that box of Boo Berry when I saw it.

We both know very well that most discussions like that is direspecting each other.  People just chose there words carefully due to mods.  Go back to that thread and tell me you dont see how disrespectful people are towards each other.  I know you guys cant just go on banning sprees but when threads get out of hand like that they should be locked. It is the same situation with XBL vs PS+.  Those threads cause nothing but argueing and shouldnt be allowed.  Same goes to Forza vs Gran Turismo.  It isnt because of difference in opinions, it is because it was clearly created for arguments and you are not going to change anybody's minds on the topic.  It is a waste of time to even argue your points.  Surely im not the onlyone who sees that

I'm waiting for a Norbit thread...
