Forums - Gaming - PS4 vs. PC - Graphics comparison

Watch Dogs was confirmed to be running on a PC "with similar spec to the PS4"

It should not be taken as representative of final PS4 games. And I would bet most of the games show off so far are similarly running on PC dev kits.

Yes, they are on PC dev kits, but the PS4 is basically a PC. There whole presentation was about this.

Contrary to popular belief, while the PC shots might look marginally better, it just serves to show that the PS4 will have amazing looking games. When games like GoW:Ascension and Journey wows people, imagine what PS4 games will do.

Just remember that what we're comparing here are PC ports of current-gen PS3/360 games and a 2008 exclusive designed to run on 9xxx GTX series GPU with maximum of 1GB VRAM and Core 2 Quads, to a 2012/2013 hardware with games being designed exclusively for it and using all the capabilites of the new GPU and CPU chips, even if not efficiently because of the adaptation time needed to work with new architectures.

Whether it was designed in 2008 and 2012, it doesn't change the fact that it is still regarded as being one of the best looking PC game of all time.

Sure, but it also doesn't change the fact that GPUs and CPUs evolved a lot since 2008 and that if Crysis was made today it would look better.

Not really. PC games have come out after 2008 and there hasn't really been a step up in graphics from Crysis Warhead.

PC wins obviously, that's kind of the point. The strength of the console has always been a closed design that allows devs to really crank the most out of it.

Also if you want to match art style as much as possible Warframe might be a better match for Killzone, even tho Warframe really isn't pushing scale as much and is still in alpha plus being low budget.

Nevear head about that game before. It looks much similar environment wise to Killzone than Warhead, and has also nice graphics. Any problems if I put those shots in the OP?

Agreed. But technically, new games are way ahead of Warhead, for example, as the minimum specs of games today is much higher than in 2008. Why the graphics didn't changed too much is probably because of diminishing returns, since Warhead without mods looks similar to most games released nowadays running without mods.

I completely disagree there, especially if you mod.

I don't follow pc gaming so I don't know what mods are capable of doing. Personally, the way I view it pc gaming with pc building and modding is a hobby in itself as opposed to console gaming where all that matters is the gaming experience.

Ah, but that's just it, on PC, modding is also part of the gaming experience. Sometimes, it IS the experience.

But his point is that modding isn't gaming.

Day-Z, Counter-Strike, Cry of Fear and other games, born from moderations, might like to have a word with you.

I played CS on the PC and I didn't have to mod anything - I just downloaded an executable, installed and played it. No modding needed.

The point was you were able to play the game that was born out of modifications. You don't have to do any modding to play CS.

And my point still stands - you're not gaming when you're building a mod. Just like you're not gaming when you're developing a game. But to each his own - I'm only into gaming for the gaming, in other words - to play games.
