Sounds like the way to do developer relations. Now if only Sony can keep this up with the rest of them.

If only they could do this with Japanese third parties.

By which I mean Platinum Games.

Platimun Games seems to be in Nintendo's pocket already.

They are on the list of companies who are developing for the PS4. Platinum Games are in everybody's pocket that will let them in (which isn't a bad thing at all).

Really? I guess I just didn't notice them on that long ass list.

I've been looking through the list. I'm actually kinda impressed. They have a lot of independent studios working on games for them (Double Fine, Gaijin, Klei, etc.) Not saying that any of the titles those companies are working on are going to be exclusives but it's still nice to see indie studios working on new systems and not just huge studios.

They must have added some perks for indie devs developing for the system, then.

What a great read

thanks, Kresnik

Soooo Sony taking a page from MS playbook regarding timed exclusivity. Im sure MS can play this game much better though.

Meh. Bringing that into this already eh? This is different in that there is no money but both consoler maker and developer still benefit. Sony gets a timed exclusive and these devs get a lot of attention at the launch of a next-gen console i.e. free publicity. Both benefit without any money changing hands. You will also notice that sony apparently were treating them better - keeping in touch and encouraging them. This isnt really about how sony GOT them but how MS LOST them.

So.... he prefers PS4's design direction better than a leaked spec console he admits to pretty much know nothing about, cool story bro.

Butthurt much?

Look, small guys goes shopping for support to the studios with his conceptual art.

Sony's answer: Might like it, stay in contact, get the poor guy a development kit

Microsoft's answer: What is this? No HaloCOD shooter? Throw him out.

Do you start to realize now why the poor guy doesn't have a Durango kit but has a PS4 kit?

It has gone both ways through history. Don't think for a moment that Microsoft does not support small studios xD

No money was involved, Sony was just interested in the title. Microsoft didn't even contact him.

"There were people at Sony who really liked the game and were keeping in touch with us about it, and so we naturally started going to their PS4 developer events, got a dev kit, and started playing with it. I don’t have good communication with anyone at Microsoft right now, but all our technical people like the PS4 specs a lot more than the leaked Durango specs, and we like the positioning of the PS4 (it’s about games) more than what we perceive Microsoft’s positioning is going to be.

People have been speculating that we got paid for PS4 exclusivity, but that is not the case. There was no money involved"

It's sounds like Sony are doing exactly what microsoft aren't doing.

Eek. Sorry to turn this into a MS/Sony thing already Kresnik. I'm very excited to see what Blow can do with the new console.

Huh. Id call that the exeption to the rule then, since playing favourites out of the good ness of your heart with costs as high as they are, just seems impractical now.

maybe not everything is about money.. and sony said if they wanted to have that promo they had to sign a launch window exclusivity.. and they said sony being is great to them made it easy for them to be exclusive on console.. since microsoft aren't being great to anyone apparently..

you really think this developer doesn't know what the next xbox is capable of? They basically confirmed the xbox next is weaker than PS4..

clarification is always needed.

really cool story.

last gen 360 got a ton of "defacto exclusives" by being so much easier to work with than the ps3. looks like that might reverse next gen and for me that's a great thing. i love these smaller titles a ton. braid was amazing!!
