Forums - Sony - PS4 = Photorealism

The Top image is PC, the Botton image is PS4

You can confirm this by looking at the conference video

That's got to be the worst image in the whole trailer, take a look at the two trailers, there's is a bit of difference lesser on the PS4 side but all in all they're both very close, when shits moving around at 30 FPS no ones going to notice the difference.

PS4

PC

PC demo runs on core i7 and NVIDIA GTX680 and 16 GB ram. Graphic card it self is more expensive than PS4 will be.

That Killzone demo was beyond anything I had ever seen before. The first time my jaws dropped like that was when I saw the original Crysis maxed out on PC. I honestly don't think there are any games out right now that can achieve that level of fidelity. And this is jut the beginning. 5 years from now...

This may not be photorealism, but it is more than good enough for next gen.

Let me remind you of Killzone 2 E3 2005

Personally I hope PS4 footage we seen is real but knowing Sony's bluffing history who knows.

This is the reason why some people are bothered by how PS4-hypers have been acting. Threads like this.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

What's wrong with it?

Mostly the title. Nothing wrong with being impressed by the PS4's graphics capabilities (which are indeed impressive) but just declaring them to be "photorealism" is over-the-top hyping.

Photo realism my ass. Nothing shown was photo realistic. Yeah we saw some nice tech demo's but that's exactly what they are. Actual games will never be able to achieve that due to being far more complex and resource hungry. Also cut scenes will always best gameplay graphics for obvious reasons.

One more thing. The PS4 hardware is good but it ain't that good compared to current mid-top of the line PC. This is the first time this has happened in recent memory. When the 360 and PS3 were released their CPU and GPU were state of the art. Not so in this case. The Jaguar CPU is a low power consumption laptop processor and the graphics card is a mid range Southern Bridge AMD GPU. The one thing (kinda) state of the art about it is the GDDR5 RAM. That was a very smart move and kudos to Sony for that even if GDDR5 has high latency issues.

It's all very well and good going for realistic graphics but what about frame rate? I was dismayed to see Killzone running at 30fps and even then dropping frames. I thought we were going to get 60fps as standard but seems like resolution will be more important and the hardware just isn't powerful enough to get games like Killzone SF running at high resolutions (seems like 1080p in this case) and 60fps.

It's just hyperbole. Do you get upset when you see a tv commercial that claims their product is the "-est" something?

I agree. 300$ console is ain't that good compared to 1200$ PC. xD

PS4 won't be able to push graphics like FF:The Spirits Within and even this wasn't close to photorealism.
