But now MS can get their grimy hands all over Sony's specs. That's exactly what Sony didn't want. |
But maybe Sony didn't want to announce their console after MS cause they felt that it could look inferior to the 720.

Consoles usually get longer announce to launch periods. Look at the Wii U. They had 2 E3s before their launch in November. That didn't really work out for them, and I'm sure Sony and MS see shorter as better. But then look at Sega Saturn giving 2 weeks notice, complete disaster. Announcing now isn't bad, they have an event next week, there is GDC, E3, and Gamescom as hype stepping stones to a launch during the biggest sales time of the year.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Well the 10 year life-cycle isn't scrapped yet. PS3 longevity is ensured despite PS4's release. It happened with all their previous consoles and this one is here to stay for long as well.

yep best news, and the free press doesn't hurt.

The inference being that the 360 would lack longevity. He said this in 2009. Moronic statements by a man of his intelligence. |
Even gods can make mistakes. But yes that was an odd statement.

I think you said it best yourself sales, (if I'm not quoting you, I'm sorry :P), but that Microsoft and Sony are playing a grand game of chess, Sony merely made the first move, its Microsoft's turn now :)
But you are right though, most journalists are disappointed with the conference, even though there is plenty of time for bombshells between now and christmas :P

to throw people off
they did the same at E3 2010 with Twisted Metal

I wonder how Microsoft will counter? I mean the next-gen features of the PS4 revolutionary. The ones that stand out are "Try any game before you buy", "Play game while you are downloading it" and "Made by developers for developers". If the devs are happy, they'll make more games for the system. That guy from Epic Games seemed super excited about the 8GB GDDR5. Makes me wonder if they'll develop the next "Gears" for Sony's platform. From what I understand the next Xbox still has only 8GB of DDR3.

We know of the next Xbox specs and they are pretty underwhelming.(Specifically the RAM)
Any changes to it this late will cause major delays for Microsoft. So what will they do? I can assure you developers are pushing them to upgrade the specs.
Sony launched late and made every f**k up imaginable with PS3 (Price, lack of games for 1st year, hard to develop, anaemic online at start) and still managed to stay neck and neck with Xbox. With Sony doing everything right this time around , it's going to be extremely interesting generation .
