Well considering the only reason they even showed the controller was to play a demo, no. It's not a gimmick. The Wii U pad was the centerpoint of the reveal so that's a whole different thing.

Ohh so now there are rules to labeling added functionality a "gimmick". I will keep that in mind for future references.

I "understood" your OP, but didn't see how your reply to my post had anything to do with what I wrote. If anything, it's just repeating what the OP says, despite the fact that I agree with you (it will see very little use in core games), but will make much more sense in secondary features.
Your response was "Uncharted Vita used touchpad and touchscreen". What am I to make of a response like that when my post was about how the touchpad would likely be most used as a segway for mobile game control, and used very little in core gaming except how it is used with games on the Vita, ie; plotting a drive on hotshots golf, environment info in disgaea, etc.
EDIT: I explained the "new ways to play" already. You must have missed it.

It sure is, just like all the other gimmicks in the video game world which in fact, aren't gimmicks.

Yes there are. Why would you think added functionality=gimmick?

This is pure BS. A device is not judged a gimmick or not based on whether it's central or supportive, but intrinsically with regards to its value.
If it brings 0 value but is there to attract attention, it's a gimmick.
If not, it's not a gimmick.
Seriously this is getting very frustrating. A dictionary will serve well in the context of these overwhelming double-standards.
the touch pad will come in handy for diablo 3

You brought up the Vita and claimed i did not own one. I replied to that comment and made an example how those "gimmicks" are already used on those so called hard core games. You already admitted its a gimmick but now you are arguing how the gimmick is used. I dont care how the gimmick is used im just asking if some will quit playing video games now that gimmicks are introduced and its supposedly a "bad thing for gaming". Also im giving you permission to think im hostile in your mind, go ahead and pretend whatever you like to make yourself feel comfortable.
the new additions are not the main stuff of the controller, so I would say it is not a gimmic, and it offers more ways to interact with the games without being something annoying.

Thank you at least someone gets the point....
