I've read on the Internet, for a long time, PC users faulting the console industry with holding back the technical advancements possible on a current PC system.  Understandable since most releases are ported from consoles, leaving the power under our PC hood under used.

So I'm asking if anyone thinks, in probably two years when the PS4 is released, this will increase the quality of PC games the way everyone has hoped for so long.  What do you expect to come?

Of Course. Its all about those Next Gen engines.

... Eh, yes and no. Will games be better then the 360, PS3 multiplat standards games come with now? Sure.

However by then, the PC will once again be halfway down the road from the PS4.

it didn't halt anything, developers who make the PC versions just release the unported version, which is the PC version out of the game's own engine.

Yes and No.
People wanted the PC games to get a graphical boost every 2 years or so as usual but this console generation stopped that. We will now get what games could have looked like in 2009.

I mean look at Crysis its from 2007 6 years ago! And it looks way better than 2004's Farcry.

Crysis is the best looking game in terms of geometry details etc.

Battlefield 3 etc look awesome because they have effects that didnt exist in the gaming industry back when Crysis came out but other than that every game looks worse than Crysis.

So I am pretty sure there is no point in being happy about finally being on track again.

I mean its the wrong attitude to be happy to have something that should be normal.
Lets say a government is removing human rights right now and in 10 years we would get them back thats not exactly a reason to be happy. The removal of the rights should be a reason to be angry.
But people work that way we get something back they took from us and then well....

New game engines will help PC graphics a lot.

No, because third party games will still be developed for PS3 with PS4 as an afterthought.

No, those hyper-realistic graphics already make me shudder. I don't want to be able to see more details than in real life, it feels SO unnatural. No more, please.

That may be true for something like first person shooters, but something like a Space-Sim could do with the extra geometric detail in space. :)
OR RTS games with more realistic terrain.
Hopefully it will also mean no more 2D sprites in-place of 3D models which look fugly at insanely high resolutions.

Yes and I can't wait. Imagine the heavily modded games even 3 years from now? It'll make the ps4 photo realism thread redundant.
