Forums - Sony - Was anybody else underwhelmed by the PS4 event?

Great hardware, great features, some nice games. They need to leave something for E3 too...

The social capabilities were the best part along with the CAPCOM game. Everything else was blah especially the developer diaries. You want to present an idea, do it through a game not a long fruity speech about your dream. The rest of the games show were not impressive outside of tech.Very been there done that. Hopefully this isnt just another tech gen.

It started off great, new Killzone and a new Infamous but then they showed that puzzle game, some crappy Media Molecule game, same thing from Enix, same game from Ubisoft, bunch of social crap and then no console reveal.

It was pretty poor.

Not really, but I'd like to point out, that all sorts of space-age gadgets won't do, the PlayStation Move has been the answer all along! Other than that, and slight concers about their data collecting, it looked pretty good to me. I didn't expect a jump like last gen, so I was not dissapointed with the graphics displayed, I just want to see them in-game ... play.

It was a decent presentation IMO. Got to the point, and showed some solid looking games. Another gaming console from Sony that will have 3rd party games and solid first party efforts.

Will that be enough to make Ps4 number 1 entertainment device in your living room? I don't think so... After a few years on the market, games are hardly system sellers and you need another angle to grow sales year over year.

To be honest, I don't see Microsoft, Google or Apple even flinching after this presentation. I mean all Microsoft has to do is give the next xbox PVR and cable box capabilities and bundle it with cable over IP subscriptions with Comcast, Time warner or any other cable provider... $199 for 3 year cable/xbox live subscription and they will outsell the PS4.

So basically Microsoft has to show no games and they will win?

The future of gaming is fucked.

It really is if you see the future of gaming as hardcore games. This gen showed that you can have amazing core games but get totally outsold by a console appealing to a new market.  Good core games are a check box on a console but the ecosystem battle and war for livingroom control is the next step.

Also keep in mind that most of the stuff shown today will be multiplatform. Hell Watch Dogs was just announced for Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and WiiU. Developers can't afford to develop these types of games for one console that will sell betweenn 5-10 million consoles its first year.

Knack, Killzone, inFamous, the Witness and Drive Club are exclusive to PS4. So, most of the stuff shown are not multi platform. Nice try though =)

The Witness is a timed console exclusive for PS4.

Yeah Im not stupid. I'm talking about the slew of games that took up the last 30 minutes. Everyone knows those games you listed are sony exclusives and if you think those games will sell more PS4 consoles than a multiplat Call of Duty or new Madden with awesome console exclusive sharing featues... I wish you good luck.

The Witness is a timed PS4 exclusive only because the PS4 will launch first and the best game shown was Watchdogs and the rest were just tech demos not actual gameplay and by the rest i mean those shown after the exclusives.

I thought it was a pretty good event. It showcased what the hardware was going to be capable of, what games could do, some games that are being developed for it. It was pretty much all about the games.

Who honestly gives a shit what the hardware looks like? Every console that has ever existed has been pretty much a hunk of plastic and metal that's primary purpose is to play games, not look good.

The only other thing that mattered really was the main controller, the DS4 and that turned out perfect. Same basic form factor as the DS3. None of that touchSCREEN crap, no XBOX phat hands size. Just a no brainer upgrade of the previous version. Triggers, vita dpad, touchPAD.

Magical innovation is only necessary for the desperate.
