3DS also weak? WTH are they talking about? Nonsense.

3DS is super strong in Japan.

The sales in US and Europe are just ok.

I still think they went overboard with how they described 3DS performance and current status of specialized gaming handhelds. Read the entire three paragraphs.

I tend to agree, especially since Japan was always Sony's one bright spot, sales-wise--I don't think even SONY expected much out of NA or Europe, so it's telling that this alleged 'pull along effect' is having zero effect in Japan. (That of course assumes you buy the idea of a 'pull along effect' and this just wasn't a weak attempt to inoculating the author against 'bias'.)

With every new generation, costs go up, staff increases, and salaries have to be paid. To make a full retail experience and without the luxury of being multiplat (more opportunity for income), you need to be really good to profit as a exclusive to one console.

Id imagine selling 500k-2 million lifetime as a exclusive wont cut it next gen.

remember Sony cut development studio's, and you are basing that on what? the idea of projected ROI - investment's? you and i have no idea how much each project cost's in its investment. and frankly they are not going to tell us, so it's just a guess, and if what you sais was true many 2nd and 3rd games in a series would never have been made. because with margins like that trying to tell a a venture capitalist that you have to sell over 2 million copy's on a d@mn $60.00+ game would be quite telling about the investments cost involved in makeing that product.

and also

that depends on the investment of the cost's in the games production and ad budget's so what if Sony drop's the number of project's or budget's right?

Make a bunch of Mid tier Games but promote them as AAA seem's to work for Nintendo right?

I wouldnt compare Sony to  nintendo 1st party. Thats just a dead end. Basically, its just common sense that if the game isn't cel-shaded and is therefore polygon heavy, the costs warrant at least a million or more, depending on the dev cycle and marketing expenses. Next gen the costs will only go up. Sony is a more forgiving owner, they dont drop their studios after 1 or two failed attempts.

I've never understood this but does cel-shading mean less dev costs? If so why?

I first remember this when Wind Waker was announced. Something about less data to allow the massive world to be created on the 1.5 gig Gamecube disk. Thought it was common sense that a cel shaded game just has less gigabytes then a game with the full polygon effect (aiming for photorealism) going on.

Ohhhhh that explains why JRPGs can still make their $$ back with like 100k-200k sold.

Boy, Sony fans sure get defensive....

Yeah, I really flew off the old handle there, didn't I?! LOLZ!

No, it's just a shit click bait article. "10 reasons or less why X!" is the laziest thing in the world, and they still failed miserably at it. All they did is state the bleeding obvious while managing to miscount how many games the Vita actually has coming, misapprehend what is actually Sony's biggest franchise at this point, and most amazingly, not even mention the ridiculously priced memory cards.

like i said before if the PSVita is such a dead platform, why is everyone still talking about it? if the PSVita does not really matter in the Market why is people still talking about it, keeping it in the limelight? to make discussion? to make melt down's? I mean if it's So dead of a platform, where is the massive retail chain's refusing not to re order the system like they did the PSPGo? They want to give the PSVita another chance, yet another chance, and yet another chance How about yet another chance. Maybe Sony should just up and Quit making any game system because the sales are not where they need to be at a certain point of time, like for the PS3 was in 2006 and 2007 call it quits for the better heath of their company and the industry as a whole right?

We're all concerned about how dead it is. Pretty much means that handhelds are going away.

Btw Sony 2006 is not Sony 2013. Sony 2006 could afford to take losses on their hardware. Sony 2013 can't. They shouldn't kill it for fear of losing customer trust, but no one can deny it's in critical condition.

You also have to consider the fact that Nintendo seriously wants to outright kill this thing, they don't want to give up anymore of a increasingly smaller market. They're playing hardball and Sony doesn't have the $$ to keep up.

has the dedicated PDA gone away? That answer is no! the same with dedicated handhelds, tell me something this article has stated that has not already been said about the PSVita in one shape or form already 1000 times. for a dead platform it sure is getting alot of Press, some may say Bad press, but with Sony pretty much that is all they have been getting even with some good news the doubt about Sony's viablility in the Market or pretty much any market has been bad, and rightly so. but on the same token Like i stated after a while it's just beating a dead Horse, right now it's like keeping Sony in the lime light and giving them free press. for a dead platform that is a good thing not a bad, because the more people keep saying it's "dead" but still stay's in the Media, the more is asked about if it's so dead why talk about it? you have to wonder is it really a negative if people still keep talking about it if it's dead and no one really cares about the product in the first place.

and like you stated:

"You also have to consider the fact that Nintendo seriously wants to outright kill this thing, they don't want to give up anymore of a increasingly smaller market. They're playing hardball and Sony doesn't have the $$ to keep up."

If Sony right now is selling 10+ million xperia smart devices every three months right now, do you really think Sony is that worried about if the PSVita sales at the pace of the 3DS?  would Sony like for it to sell at that Pace you betcha, but the fact that smartphones and Tablets are the market leader in Mobile right now its like in Sony's in house sales its over 10:1 in the leader of xperia over PSVita..Sony knows exactly where the market is heading, do people think after the PSVita that Sony has a hurry to make yet another dedicated game handheld?

we will be lucky if Sony even makes a re design of the PSVita.

does hitler still sell product's? LMAO

its one thing to talk about people ok, but its another story about product's.

it still does not take away from the fact that both are still talked about, but unlike one the PSVita was never Alive and is still in retail chains still being reordered and still being sold.

I'd agree with this, but the 3DS sales aren't weak. They're excellent in Japan, and average outside of Japan. Not weak.

Rest of the article seems to have a good point, but has too many errors and jumps to too many conclusions to be to my liking.
