Gawd, I certainly hope this isn't true. Surely Sony aren't stupid enough to charge for their basic online, surely?

If this is true and that's a BIG "if". I was right for almost 3 years predicting that PSN+ is gateway for paid online. But all the PS fans were dismissing it and say that Sony is a true game company and wouldn't do such a thing. VgChartz will be very amusing for a few days.

umm guys..I don't know if PS4 will charge for basic online or not but this rumor is basically about a new service that will replace PS+...as in base online play free but things like free games, gaikai etc as a paid service

If "true" they are using it for hits to suggest it is following Xbox. Really now, any subscription service "follows" that. Sony will not, no way, restrict online multiplayer to a subscription. Any added features they add on top of what they offer now are fair game though, just like cloud saving and automatic updates are with PS+.

they should just call it PlayStation Underground

as long as i am still able to play the regular online free of charge then i'm good

If true:

Sony announces it will charge for online.
M$ reverses it on NeXtbox announcement saying their online is free.
Sony, unlike Microsoft, does not get away with the paid online (like the 360 did) and everyone abandons PlayStation.

It's not easy to be Sony.

They won't charge for online. It's probably a new paid service. Maybe PlayStation ++ (I know I'd pay for an even more premium service). Or Gaikai service.

Also Kotakus source provided them brand new pictures of the PS4 controller in clear detail

Wow, this one rumor is quite big if true. It makes complete sense though, cause Sony has been seeing Microsoft take in big profits for a service Sony does for free. I don't think it will effect sales much, cause its not likely that Microsoft will make online gaming free in the 720 as well. 

For about the billionth time Kotaku isn't credible, because their source vetting is a fucking joke. These are the same guys who took the words of SuperDae as gospel truth. That guy just isn't credible he is actually incredible. He has performed a number of crazy stunts, and made some outrageous claims. This is the guy that claims he was going to sell a 720 development kit over Ebay, but nobody has ever seen it, and apparently nobody has found out where he supposedly got it. Which is strange, because he also claims to have met representatives from Microsoft. Yeah he was so important they had to have a lunch date with him.
