Asking people to buy for online gaming nowadays is like losing many potential buyers. Not many people are willing to pay for such a basic feature.
If the rumor is true, we'll see the rise of PC gamers for sure..

Hope it false, for the sake of Sony.

IDK aren't here like 40 million gold subscribers on XBL.

No, that number included Silver members, too.  Historically, it has alsways been ~50% of Live members are Gold.  So, at max we are looking t ~20M-25M Gold members.

Now, I know a lot of Xbox fans would love it if Sony started charging for online, as they are the only ones who have to put up with it, but they are going to be disappointed to find that Sony is not charging for online play next gen, either.

Your'e quite the psychic.

Yes.  Yes I am.

Edit: @ UnitSmiley

I believe it was in 2011 when Greenberg commented that Gold membership was roughly over half of the active users.  With the last report of 46M active users, Greenberg tweeted this.  So, we're looking at roughly over half, again.  I would say it's probably closer to 25M Gold users.

I don't want to pay for two online networks if this is true.

Well, if true, and it includes online play, watch me only get a Wii U this generation. Gaming has become so much about scamming gamers, and I'm not taking part in supporting any more of this scamming. If rumors about PS4/Xbox 720 are mostly true, a scam is what these consoles will be, nothing less. It's time for gamers to become just a tad wiser, and become much more aware and critical consumers.

Can I watch Netflix for free and can I play for free online if yes then charge me for whatever else and I will decide if it is worth it anything like a playstation plus then I am a fan

i think its the streaming service they will add. online play will still be free. also Playstation World >>> PSN

I wouldn't mind if PS+ is required for online gaming. I was never planning on leaving, subscribed till september 2015

My prediction would come true then! I predicted they would have a 2nd subscription service for streaming besides PS+

Sony charging for online has been a long time coming.  They might have probably started earlier if not for the hack/downtime and all   the bad PR.

I'm kind of surprised that people are surprised.   But I think it will be less expensive than Xbox Live, like half price.  Xlive is many apps, teleconferencing on a really good speakerphone, bonus, and things not just online gaming.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

I guess I just never understood all the fuss about paying $40 a year (assuming you buy live on sale which you should). I used to play MMORPG games for years and years and that averages out to almost $200 a year (12 * 15 = 180).

Sony will do just fine if they charge for online just like MS does. I honestly don't think the free online is that big of an advantage for Sony to part with. The consoles can distinguish themselves on the basis of their games just like the old days.

Also comming from a MMORPG I found this confusing.  Espcialy, as now it gives you so many more apps. You are bound to find something you like (Personally my new favorite is Vevo form music and Magna Entertainment for Animme.)

Xlive, It's around the cost of one game.  But the money helps and forces MS make a better service.

Plus aren't the unlimited music services like $10-15/month?
