Forums - General - The Truth about Soda

Many years ago I started drinking almost all water because my parents wouldn't buy soda. I thought I would die without it, but after a few months my body adjusted and the purity and emptiness of water tasted much better than other crap. After a while I found it difficult to drink a lot of soda because it tastes like it contains an excessive of unnecessary chemicals.

I still drink a few sodas occasionally but if I drink too much it feels like I'm destroying my body, while water feels like it cleans my body. I realize this is probably all psychological but I think it's a pretty good trait to have.

If we only eat and drink that which is most healthy we would be living on a caveman diet.

No thanks. I'll just continue to regulate my overall sugar and calorie intake and keep enjoying the stuff that makes life worth living in a responsible manner. I drink mostly water, but I do have a can of cola when I have a burger or pizza. BTW, I make my own burger patties with 50/50 lean beef and zucchini and make my own low fat pizza from scratch at full size and only 150 calories a slice.

I don't need Sugar Nazi nutritionists to tell me sugar is bad. I know too much sugar is bad so I don't consume too much sugar. It's common sense. Anyone who drinks more than a few cans of soda a week should know better.

97% lean beef is much better XD

I do use 97% lean beef, but then I mix it 50/50 with minced zuchini. A quater pound patter ends up with only about 100 -110 calories and so little fat that I don't bother keeping track of it. I cook it with a little salt and pepper and put it on a toasted whole wheat bun with light mayo, mustard and a little ketchup and top it off with lettuce and pickles. Sometimes I'll feel like a cheeseburger and add a slice of Kraft's new fat free swiss singles.

I don't feel guilting about enjoying a 150cal can of Coke with my 300cal low fat Burger and my 150 cal super low fat baked fries, which I cut and bake myself. The whole meal comes out to about 600 calories which is about as much as a Whooper is all by itself without a soda and fries.

Haha I must've read your statement wrong the first time lol  97% lean beef is amazing XD  I make tacos with it though.  Whole wheat tortilla soft shells.

And as far as soda goes you can consume it if you dont drink it a lot.  The problem with it is though is that a lot of people replace water with soda completely.  We have a lot of issues with obesity in the world right now so I feel like bringing awareness to people could really help people out.  Even though Im reaching very little people on this site I still want people to realize that they can make there life better by being healthy.  And that doesnt just go to feeling good but as far as a physical appearance as well.

People dont realize that for almost every unhealthy food item, there is a healthy alternative to it.  For example Pizza.  There is plenty of healthy alternatives to pizza if people get up and make it themselves instead of going to places like Pizza hut and downing a 1000 caloris in mostly fat, carbs, and unhealthy oils

Yeah that happens lol  It's the same way when you start eating healthy.  When i eat any kind of junk food it makes me feel sick.

I was under the impression that sugar: glucose (C6 H12 O6) was the primary source of energy for your body. While I can see why excess can be a problem, I don't see why sugar in general is bad. Maybe someone who is knowledgeable in this field could shed some light on this matter.

That said, nothing beats water for me. I chug it down like a boss.

The problem isn't sugar it's self.  It is usually consumed in excess amounts. Let me us an example.  1 can of coke has more sugar thatn your daily needs.  A woman on average will need around 25g while a guy will need 37g depending on your weight, height etc.

Now this is what is in a 12 oz can of Coke

  • Serving size- 1 can
  • Servings per Container- 1
  • Calories- 140
  • Total Fat- 0g, 0% of DV
  • Sodium- 45mg, 2% of DV
  • Total Carbohydrates- 39 g, 13% of DV
  • Sugars- 39g
  • Protein- 0g
  • Caffeine- 34 mg per 12 fl oz

Eh, soda sales have been stagnating/declining. Both Coke and Pepsi have been focusing on "functional" drinks and other alternative drinks anyway (RTD tea for example).

Personally, I've been addicted to Rockstar Recovery drinks. Perfect amount of sweetness for me.
