Yeah... but this time you'd also other services that make money. I'm sure they profit from all the TV aps like netflix/lovefilm etc. and PS+. Besides, if PS+ and other part of Sony gaming business are really that profitable, why don't we see Sony make more money this past FY? 

Sony just puts them on there for free? No sort of deal comes out of it? 

@bolded PS Vita hasn't performed well, and you've got R&D for PS4.

So far I've added some of the profitable factors and they'll still take around a billion in losses unless it's a magical year, so it probably isn't possible.

I seriously doubt Netflix has to pay Sony any significant money, if any, to have the app on PS3 (or any Sony systems). 

@bolded PS Vita hasn't performed well, and you've got R&D for PS4.

And this is exactly why your proposal would not work. Sony is finally making money off PS3 and PSP to barely cover the loss VITA generated as well as other loss then you are suggesting them to take a loss with PS4 to turn the small profit they have now into a huge loss again.



MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

They'd be dead within a few months if they did this. Sony are in a bad way in practically every area outside of games, they'd be stupid to turn one of their few profit makers into a money-sucking black hole like their TV business.

Add the 2012 and first 2Q of FY2013 results and the division (with those huge losses products I mentioned) is on the black. Which product do you think makes them have profits for the generation?

I doubt Sony would go that far, and for the record I don't think MS would either.
Sometimes it takes a good slap in the face to wake you up. I think Sony had enough of these slaps over the last few years to be wide awake when it comes to the PS4 if not anything else.

As for those saying MS could pull a similar $200+ lost on each console to hurt Sony is madness.

First and foremost MS is a business. It's aim is to take your money. Not to please it's fans with a cheap console and take a heavy loss. That's the reality of it.

The days of selling 130m+ consoles to recoup losses on hardware through software as was the case with PS2 now seems to be long over.

Services like Live and PS Network can help although I don't see as many Europeans paying for these services next gen but that's speculation and totally another matter.

sony might make money from day one with the ps4. they lost money on the ps3 because of them useing ninvida gpu. they had to pay tons of money to them. MS owned all there gpu so they ahd to pay nobody.
so i think sony is takeig a page from MS. i bet they only lose 25 to 30 dollars per console

There is no way in hell that Sony will be able to handle losses like that. They would go bankrupt if they did that.
