I'm glad atleast someone understands. They're comparing PS4 announcement with Wii's 2nd E3 show and its actual launch.

First you say compare reveal against reveal, now the E3 reveal for the Wii can't be used.

Make up your mind.

Anyways, as Archbrix showed, the Wii had more attention. But online I agree that Sony fans are very hyped for this event, and that's ok.

First, Wii wasn't shown in 2006 the first time, it was 2005. The only comparison you could make is compare Wii or WiiU prereveal hype with that of PS4 or wait after PS4 is shown tomorrow and measure the hype level, but right now, the PS4 is one of the most hyped products pre-reveal.

I think you and a few others need to go back and read the OP and thread title again:

"Have you ever seen another console get as much media attention as the PS4 is getting before its launch?

Really, I've never seen this much coverage. People, sites, reports are writing out lists of things Sony should and shouldn't do to come out on top. That is a huge amount of respect and criticism and Sony should feel honored despite their mistakes. They have left a better taste in gamers mouths for quite a few years despite a self inflicted first start. Anyway, If you can think of a time that another console brand in the last two gens has come out with more concerned press please add. This mysterious February 20th date it really getting to people. One more day! :)"

Nowhere does it address "pre-announcement".  It specifically asks "before its launch", and that's what many people in this thread are responding to.

Now, regarding just pre-announcement hype, you can't make a direct comparison between the Wii and the PS4 since Nintendo and Sony went very different routes with the Wii and the PS4 reveals.  Where Sony has decided to announce everything all at once tomorrow, Nintendo leaked details about the Wii over time.  Saying that the big reveal of the "revolution" was at E3 '05 is flawed.  All they showed us was the console's outer casing and a five second Metroid cinema.  Later that year at TGS was when they debuted the controller, and that was when the hype began.  Going into E3 '06 we still hadn't seen it in action; no games yet and little known about the specs - even the name "Wii" was barely revealed a few days before the show.  So those claiming that the Wii hype didn't begin until post-launch are flat-out wrong, as evidenced by the four hour wait to finally see/play the thing at E3.  I even remember reading that Bill Gates himself, who was at E3 '06, was seen shaking is head in disbelief when he saw how everyone rushed to Nintendo's press conference.  Again, as far as anything significant, pre-reveal.

Pre-anouncement is before it's launch first of all, secondly the OP is obviously directing his comparison to the Feb 20 announcement. It's then only logical to compare the pre-anouncements

Is it a good thing that that PS4 / Orbis is getting media attention.

Look at it this way PS1 and PS2 were the biggest in the console market. PS3 big but not like PS1 or PS2.

(MY OPINION) So media and Sony making the right decisions in what they do = PS4 might be another PS2 and bigger.

He laid it our for you fully yet you're repeating the same thing over and over and over and over -> CIRCULAR LOGIC IS BAD.

And as I said, if only the purest pre-announcement matters, this thread is crap.

Don't let the Kaz gifs fool you. Like many users already said all this hype is coming from our gaming bubble.

In websites not related to gaming I have only seen a single article mentioning tomorrow's conference (and that was a few days ago) nothing have been said outside of that.

We'll just have to wait after the system's reveal to see if there's a true hype outside of our gaming world.

But honestly nobody other than die-hard Sony fans are genuinely interested.

Thats the most ignorant shit i've ever heard. I haven't been a fan of what Nintendo has done as of late but I know I want the Wii U eventually because some killer apps might come out for it later on and watched Nintendo Direct.

Hahahaha :) Okay, I am a bit curious but that's it. Don't ruffle your feathers so much you poor thing.

Look at Sales2099's post....is that how you feel in the slightest?

Pre-announcement is before launch, but pre-launch can still be post-announcement.

And again, comparing the way the Wii and PS4 were/will be announced is apples and oranges.

A little bit. Mind you I actually am interested in the next Sony platform, just not NEARLY as much as the inner PS community is. They are nuts, if you want my honest opinion.

It's going to be a  great traditional console with all the great exclusive content I now came to expect from Sony. I don't need a reveal to know the obvious. Maybe I've just been around for too long.

To know the specifics is more for my participation on vgchartz.

I think I and a lot of other people are interested, but not hyped. I'm interested to see what they say, but I will be more hyped if what I hear sounds good. I was hyped for PS3 until I found out about the machine and the strategy. Sony needs to announce a good machine at a good price with some exclusive games that capture my imagination. Some exciting innovation would be good. Till then I'm interested, but I have nothing to be hyped over yet.

People saying it's only from the gaming community obviously don't know about the ads they've been releasing today

"Every console gets hyped before launch by some people, but hype before reveal? That's not quite so common."

True but at the same time it's also very rare that a company hype up a supposed reveal event like this. Normally these things happen at conventions or things where people expect it and the hype is already there. They don't usually announce a special event and then be so secretive about it. I mean hell, it's tomorrow right? And we really don't even have confirmation PS4 will be there. The closest thing I can think of in terms of a hyped reveal event like this is what MS did on MTV for the 360 and everyone knew it was a next gen console reveal. I believe "next generation revealed" or something was even in the title of the show.

I'm still not sure why some of the Sony guys are upset about people saying Wii got more media attention. The thread title clearly says "before its launch". Maybe some of you guys weren't into gaming when the Wii launched? The thing was everywhere. Unlike where Sony is now with the hype regarding the PS Event, the WIi media attention was everywhere and real. Hell the PS2 might have even dwarfed the Wii. Some of you are acting as if it's stupid to compare the hype for a revealed and soon to launch Wii console to the hype of a PS4 not even officially announced and in that regard you're completely correct. But that's what the thread title asks people to do.

Both Xboxes were announced at special events, and I believe the PS1 and PS3 were announced at special events (PS2 was Tokyo Game Show I think). The (mainstream) hype seems to be the same to me, save for the internet gaming sites doing the hyping, because they have nothing else to do.

The announcements are usually special events and the reveals are at e3's and such.

As for J-allard, I'm not sure why you expect confirmation for the ps4... IT HASNT bEEN ANNOUNCED YET! what don't you people understand about that... why would sony say "oh the this event is for the ps4" when they are trying to unvail it with pizazz.

I am not sure why you and others are so confused as to PS4 being confirmed or not. We know it's not been confirmed. I didn't say I expect confirmation. How you took that from my reply is beyond me.
