I think you and a few others need to go back and read the OP and thread title again:
"Have you ever seen another console get as much media attention as the PS4 is getting before its launch?Really, I've never seen this much coverage. People, sites, reports are writing out lists of things Sony should and shouldn't do to come out on top. That is a huge amount of respect and criticism and Sony should feel honored despite their mistakes. They have left a better taste in gamers mouths for quite a few years despite a self inflicted first start. Anyway, If you can think of a time that another console brand in the last two gens has come out with more concerned press please add. This mysterious February 20th date it really getting to people. One more day! :)" Nowhere does it address "pre-announcement". It specifically asks "before its launch", and that's what many people in this thread are responding to. Now, regarding just pre-announcement hype, you can't make a direct comparison between the Wii and the PS4 since Nintendo and Sony went very different routes with the Wii and the PS4 reveals. Where Sony has decided to announce everything all at once tomorrow, Nintendo leaked details about the Wii over time. Saying that the big reveal of the "revolution" was at E3 '05 is flawed. All they showed us was the console's outer casing and a five second Metroid cinema. Later that year at TGS was when they debuted the controller, and that was when the hype began. Going into E3 '06 we still hadn't seen it in action; no games yet and little known about the specs - even the name "Wii" was barely revealed a few days before the show. So those claiming that the Wii hype didn't begin until post-launch are flat-out wrong, as evidenced by the four hour wait to finally see/play the thing at E3. I even remember reading that Bill Gates himself, who was at E3 '06, was seen shaking is head in disbelief when he saw how everyone rushed to Nintendo's press conference. Again, as far as anything significant, pre-reveal. |
Pre-anouncement is before it's launch first of all, secondly the OP is obviously directing his comparison to the Feb 20 announcement. It's then only logical to compare the pre-anouncements
