Of course it is, and it's one of the many ironies of Hollywood history that Martin Scorsese got his only Oscar for a (good but redundant) remake and not for one of his masterpieces.

Haven't seen Internal Affairs so can't comment on that. The All Star cast of the Departed (Nicholson, DiCaprio, Damon, Wahlberg, Sheen, Winstone) would be hard to top.

That was his only oscar? wtf :/

I haven't seen either but I'm still going to vote for Internal Affairs

Completely agreed, Infernal Affairs was excellent! What did you think of the sequels? I remember watching and liking them, but I literally can't remember a single thing about them.. D:

I'm not usually a fan of the American remakes of Asian movies (there've definitely been a few good ones though), but The Departed in particular just didn't click for me

Yeah.

I still liked the departed a lot... But infernal affairs was better, and the original.

It's a shame, that's what martin Scorsese got an oscar for when he is imo one of my favorite directors seen.

Yep. Between 1981 (Raging Bull) and 2012 (Hugo Cabret) Scorsese was nominated 7 times for directing and additionally twice for adapted screenplay, but he only won in 2007 for this remake of Infernal Affairs, which btw was completely dominated by Jack Nicholson (I could link you to a very interesting interview on that matter with The Departed's cinematographer Michael Ballhaus, who left Hollywood after this movie, but the interview is in German).

yeah im going with "The Departed". The Departed not only had some of the best acting in any movie but the directing, story, scripts, mood, setting, accents, was all done brilliantly.
