Forums - Sony - Rumour: PS4 to be priced at £300 ($350-400?)

Will be interesting to see! If they aim this low while having much higher tech specs than Wii U, that totally rules out any exotic accessory / controller / VR-helmet / bodysuit / dishwasher. Unless they sell at a huge loss again, and I can't see them taking that risk.

If they do that Nintendo will have to have a price cut just like they did with 3DS when PSvita announced its price as the same. However this time it may not help as home consoles are a different beast and Nintendo doesn't have the 3rd party support it does on handhelds.

to sum up,

  • we probably won't see a price tag before E3
  •  400$ is more likely to be the base model price
  •  PS4 to be sold at a loss

so about $350 for NA? it's a done deal!!!

£300 is $465. So if the price is indeed £300 it will probable cost $400 or $450 dollars.

For the rest of Europe I expect nothing less than €450 for the basic model.

I doubt it would be $350....................I doubt it will be £300 either, i paid more than for my ps3 when the price dropped, looking at £399 at least

4 weeks ago I would have agreed. Now I am not sure. Sony seems full of surprises right now

god i pray PS4 is $300. and a PS3 price cut will ensue. $179-$199.

Pray harder as I don't see it coming out for anything lower than $399. $350 would be a big surprise. $300 is just not realistic.

I'm hoping it's $400.  Not because I want to pay a lot but because Sony could pack in more power and make it a better machine.  I also think a super powerful $400 will sell enough before price cuts if the first party comes soon in the life and third parties are there (which they will be).  $300 would mean it's barely more powerful than PS3 so why even upgrade?

So someone asked the author on Twitter and he seems to have actual sources and have some idea of what he's talking about. They were talking about the local price in the UK and not a convertion, so it would really be the same price as the premium WiiU.

Local UK pricing. Not a yen conversion.

Sorry, no. When talking to my sources, we were talking in pounds. Japanese media reported 40,000 yen (around £270), sounds right

My guess is they'll take the tax hit to get it at a more reasonable price in Europe. But that's pure speculation on my part

That would put it at the same as the Wii U...I don't think so somehow.

£350/$400 is still my prediction.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

That's a certainty, unless PS4 is truly underwhelming, horsepower-wise.  Which I highly doubt.  With Sony's current financial situation they're in though, between heavy losses on TVs, computers, as well as horrible PS Vita sales, I have to wonder if Kaz Harai is going to want to take a bath on PS4 sales and hope to break even through the first few years purely on $60 software?  That's a big gamble.  I almost think they should price it to be closer to break-even, and even if sales are slow because of it, they will at least not have to post massive losses.  They can't weather another PS Vita-like situation, I don't think.
