Forums - Sales - Tsutaya Game Ranking (Feb 11 - Feb 17)

Tsutaya, a major retailer in Japan, has released their weekly game sales ranking for 2/11-17. They do not provide sales figures, only a ranking system similar to Amazon. The ranking is usually a good rough indicator of the Media Create sales released later in the week.

Nintendo 3DS rocking the top of the chart as expected. Battle Robot Spirits is not selling as well as expected, perhaps the PSP is reaching its limit. Demon Gaze is holding on most surprisingly well for a low key Dungeon RPG (developer Experience only has 10 employees), on Vita no less! It had maintained its ranking at #8 for 3 weeks and finally dropped to #9 in 4th week.

Surprising Vita game, and Call of duty taking over Japan.

Wait, just 10 employees? That sounds tiny even for a portable release. You'd think a staff that small would only make downloadable games. Pretty damn impressive.

Dragon Quest will destroy in Japan again this week. I think Animal Crossing's performance is scarier, though. :p

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

Would have thought Monpiece would be more popular than Demon Gaze so that's interesting.

I'm gonna stick to COMG, I think. This chart is unrealistically PS3-centric. I count five PS3 games there; there won't be any in this week's MC/Famitsu, in all likelihood. Pretty sure that means it's not very reliable.

Every Call of Duty game (or at least in the recent years) sold somewhat well in Japan - I think Squareenix advertises it since they publish it o.o.

Thing is this CoD is already 87% of what the top 2 CoDs did in Japan on PS3. US is around 70%, Europe is around 75%.

Yes and they work very hard. With their 10 employees they push around 3 titles per year, mostly in the past on the Xbox 360 and PSP. They are a company that is used to selling 5-10k copies of their games, and now it seems they may hit 100k with Demon Gaze (including downloads). This is a huge success for such a small developer.

Experience already mentioned (before Demon Gaze released) that they plan to release at least 3 games onto Vita. It seems they made the right choice.

It seems Demon Gaze and Monpiece and the like are doing very well on the Vita. The platform seems great for niche games.

The question is why are the niche games achieving success and the rest of them don't.
