Forums - Sony - GTAV - PS4 next-gen exclusive?

Not a chance.

GTAV if it goes cross-gen it would be: PS4/NextBox/PC/PS3/Xbox360 (and maybe WiiU).

At this point I think Rockstar wont see a exclusive being worth enough of a profit.

Take a look at those sales. GTA:SA had better sales on PS2 alone than GTAVI had on PS3 and 360. Vice city had nearly identical sales on PS2 as GTAVI had on PS360. If developers support one system enough they can benefit greatly. Only developing for one platform increases quality, and reduces man power, making better overall products at higher profit. This is why the PS1 and PS2 generations were a booming time for the industry. Now with developers trying to develope these games across so many platforms, the quality has fallen, production costs have went up, and sales have went down. One huge reason why so many developers and publishers have went under this gen.

I hope we are on the verge of another generation were one console slaughters the competition with %60 or more market share. It really is one of the only ways I see the industry surviving. The only other obvious answer is a unified video game platform. Something that MS, Sony, Nintendo, Samsung, ect. agree to a chipset, and release machines that have a bare minimum of said, GPU/CPU/RAM/BRD/HDD. Thus allowing developers to make one game that works for every platform.

OP
I do not think this will happen with GTA5. Like others have said, it may be timed based on different launchs, but thats about it. I think it would take more than Take-two and Rockstar to make exclusives worthwhile. You would have to do like the early days on PS2 vs Xbox where EA did not realease games on one console for a while. If Activision, Ubi, EA and TT refused to make games for WiiU and XBOX3, then it would mean major porfits for all of them.

No way. Might as well just throw money out the Windows

It would cost more money than Sony can splash around right now. They could, yes but the money it would cost wouldn't be worth it in the short term or long term.

Yes, but if I remember corectly, the XBOX versions were not developed by the main studio. The games were made exclusivly for the Playstation, then they were ported from the finished product to the Xbox. Unlike today were they try to make two versions simultaniously, with multiple teams.

That is why I said, I doubt that they would make GTA5 a PS4 exclusive. I was just trying to show that simultanious multiplat development does not equale better games, and more sales/profit. In the end had the game never came out for Xbox, I think at least some of those sales would have moved to the PS2. In fact I think this is always the case, even this gen. Had COD hit it big and only been on one system I think it would have done just as well. It may have even performed better in some ways, as the userbase would not be split between platforms.

Again I'm not arguing that they will make it exclusive, I am just trying to show that simultanious multiplatform development does not always mean more sales. GTAIV actually sold less than the last two versions with the PS2 alone selling as much or more units all by itself.

So there is no reason that even if they were to make a timed exclusive or, full exclusive that Sony or MS should have to pay them off. They are likely to make more money developing the title in that fashion anyways. The only reason to pay is to make sure it comes out day and date on your platform like MS did with GTAIV. Rockstar is not out to help Sony or MS, and that past shows they are better off making it for one platform first.

excellent point although I think with no cell both systems will be largely the same to program for and therefore easily ported games will mean no third party exclusives.

not a chance a game with a massive budget as GTA 5 needs to be multiplatform to make back it's budget

right, tell that to GTA III-SA last gen.....

Multiplatform-ism is a lie propagated by MS that it somehow always leads to more profit(when in actuality it frequently means the same amount of profit but less of a return due to more dev cost) so they could convince the 3rd parties to detere away from Sony. Exclusivity is where to go when you want to be put in as much spotlight as possible for maximum exposure and least cost. That being said, I don't think it will be full exclusive or anything.

I am personally thinking...

-GTA V Timed Exclusivity for PS4 (current gen and PS4 but excludes 720)

-Destiny Timed Exclusive for 720(current gen and 720 but excludes PS4)

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

Wouldn't be surprised if it was a timed exclusive for Durango..as in PS3/360/Durango release first and then an Orbis release
