The new Harlem Shake has nothing to do with the old dance invented some 30 years ago. The reason the new meme is called the Harlem Shake is because that's the title of the song that all these dancing videos are made about.

I'd garner that the reason it became popular is because people enjoy watching other people do stupid/funny dances in big groups at random places. And the reason people keep making new videos is because they love the idea of doing stupid/funny dances together as lighthearted fun.

You guys are grinches and probably stood at the sidelines of every dance you ever went to. :P

lol that's not true in my case. You have a lot of dance crazes over here, much more often than you'de have in the states, it's like a new one every 3 months or so!! You're not from Europe, so i don't find it weird that you wouldn't know.

Don't understand why people hate things that are intentionally meant to make you laugh. Also, the Harlem shake from the early 2000's was only cool for about a year, and unless you were a kid or a girl, it was just lame to do it.

Yeah this is one of those fads that are pretty stupid after the third or fourth one.   It's like the first one your like HAHA thats funny, but not really and then it just gets old and annoying.

Yeah, at best, this will last another 3 weeks tops. Unless mainstream media gets wind of it, then we'll start seeing it on late night shows and the news in the Fall.

Just when I thought humanity was finally recovering from the Gangnam Style breakout, a new virus spreads throughout the Earth.

Hopefully this one doesn't become so widespread, it was a nightmare listening to Gangnam Style everywhere I went.
