I'd garner that the reason it became popular is because people enjoy watching other people do stupid/funny dances in big groups at random places. lol that's not true in my case. You have a lot of dance crazes over here, much more often than you'de have in the states, it's like a new one every 3 months or so!! You're not from Europe, so i don't find it weird that you wouldn't know.
