my question is, why add speakers to the controller? i get the head phones part because lets say your family asleep and you want to play at night, instead of muting you just plug in any headset, which is something awesome. but why the speakers?

could simply be a microphone. Another possibility is that it's for stereoscopic sound, or some kind of extra sound like radio in metalgear...or in silent hill you can hear some things only from the controller, etc etc.... or playing from a alternative source than the tv??

ehh, doesnt add much if you have the head phones on now do they? my thought is that playing from an alternative source other than tv, but what is the alternative source? and why doesnt it have speakers?

The eyepad. Perhaps it can be used as a screen alternative to a tv?

maybe so. or maybe that this is still a prototype and that they just included a speaker on it from development reasons? anyways we will find out on the 20th..... 5 days left!

@Boutros
Surely the final one will be.
I predict we will see another controller pic (even sleeker than before) Monday, and possible leaked photos of things every business day until wednesday

It's the exact same controller, just from a different angle.

I stand corrected. The controlled leak yesterday was to build hype for the announcement, not make the controller look bad. Sony noticed many people thinking it was fatter and bigger than it was so they quickly leak this picture to get a positive opinion.

I love your sig.

Aren't the two pictures the same controller?

No. Look at the PS button. In the first picture it is on a different plane then the speakers. In this new image that surface is rounded. That's the only concrete difference. This one does look slimmer though but that could be due to the angle.

EDT: The speaker also has a different hole configuration.

Yeah, wanted to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.

There's a couple differences as well. The grips are longer in new image (use the size of the buttons for comparison)
The top 'used game alarm' is more flushed to the front.
The top appears less receded.

I don't know... the same thing shot at a different angle with different lighting with a different camera can do wonders to perception.

i really don't care how controllers look, they could be the most ugly thing on earth as long as they feel good. and it seems as if i could like this one more as the ps3 controller.

Looks so much better than the PS3 controller!
