Forums - Sales - January 2013 NPD Thread - 360: 281k, Wii U: 57k, PSV: 35k

I can't say I'm surprised at those laughable bad Wii U sales figures.

At least I'm going to enjoy next generation sales-wise.

PS Vita is completely dead, it is already too late to turn things around. Sony's first-party output is a joke, they've never cared about dedicated portable consoles. But since I love sincerity, I admit PS Vita is a very lovely piece of hardware to enjoy gaming. Big screen and great d-pad = win.

I apologize in advance for my bad english.

I asked this earlier, but people were posting so much and so fast that i think it went unnoticed :S

"So a recap; we have undertracked the 360 by 30k, the PS3 by 100k and overtracked the Wii and Wii U by 20k both?''

Does anyone know more about this so far?

Sounds about right, minus the Wii part.  The 360 was 281K at 44% of current gen consoles.  That leaves about 358K for PS3 and the Wii.  I would imagine we have the Wii undertracked by ~20K-40K, which would make it 100K-120K for the month.  That leaves ~238K-258K for the PS3.  So, 360 is undertracked by ~30K.  PS3 undertracked by ~90K-110K.  Both of which are up YOY.  The PS3 more so (last year, PS3 + Wii was only 281K.)

Edit: If we assume the PS3 sold 200K last year, then even with my lowest number, that would be an increase of at least 19% YOY.

Thanks for clarifying man.

I wonder why there such an increase for both the PS3 and 360 so late in the gen. What is causing this? Is it a result of the Wii U not selling well?

For the most part, the rise is due to this January being a 5 week month, instead of only 4.  I would imagine the 360 would have been down YOY if it was only 4 weeks.  The PS3 probably would have been either flat or slightly up.  I'm guessing the PS3's boost came from the white PS3 bundle that was just released, as well as many of the exclusives coming up in the next month or so.

PS3 is likely at 195,000, with Wii at 160,000 this month - up nominally year over year, but like X360 down a lot on a weekly basis (to 39,000 a week and 32,000 a week from 47,000 a week and 38,000 a week respectively last January). If you go by the weekly basis, X360 is on pace to do ~4m, and that will likely continue to drop, with Wii at ~1.5m and and PS3 at ~2.7m

I got a white vita,  when I hold it upside down it even looks like a Wii U controller.

I don't want to read this whole thread, but at least for hw, saying Wii U is worse than Saturn is retarted, Saturn sold 624,000 units from May 1995 to November 1996. Wii U is around 930,000 in the US in Nov-Jan, almost identical to where PS3 was (although it is trending to go below PS3 now).

Wow I was 30-50% off with all my predictions (except maybe the Wii)

MS and Sony better launch some HUGE games with their next generation consoles.

I think, like usual, you are being way too optimistic about the Wii.  For last year's Jan NPD, most people were estimating ~100K for the Wii, leaving ~181K for the PS3.  So, what in your mind made it increase by ~60% YOY.  Sure, there was an extra week, but 60%?  Come on.  What makes this claim more ridiculous is that the Wii dropped 40% on Black Friday last year, while the PS3 rose 15% YOY.  So, which system is most likely to see a larger rise YOY?  The most positive outcome for the Wii is if it increased by ~20% (120K), while the PS3 increased by ~31% (238K).

Dem Vita and Wii U sales...ouch.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Software sells hardware. Not suriprising in the least, Nintendo fucked up big time with this one. February will look similar.
