Forums - Nintendo - People who consider Mario a gameplay-only game are not true Mario fans

I can tell you that the old Koopa part was by far the worst idea you had in your post. Fleshing it out in this post doesn't make it any better.

If you want that kind of stuff in a Mario game, you can always choose to play one of the RPGs.

You asked me for an example, I gave you one. It might not be good but that's not my job either. I know that if I put my head to it I could find something fun to give the characters more depth and their stories more meaning, without saying much at all and while integrating it to the game's flow.

Mario games ARE pure gameplay games. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Also Galaxy 2 is the very last entry in the series and is a rare "sequel" to a 3D Mario game

Just thought I'd ask (and maybe this question is prone to opinions), aren't all of Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 "sequels" to the previous game in the series? Just because they have different storylines doesn't mean they aren't sequels, they still revolve around that same 3D Mario theme, and to continue off the theme of a previous iteration would qualify them as sequels.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

You could make a separate thread, if you can come up with something good. You know, like me.

Hehe. It was funny, but the angle cutscenes and excessive dialogue isn't needed :P Like I said, with barely more time put on the story, evoque the ideas you need for the depth of the characters. A tad more dialogue could come in much further in the game, but is all skippable and whatnot and would be very succint. Kind of like Little Nemo, one short cartoon before  every level, that was well done.

Yeah, what I meant by that was a technical sequel, in the sense that they basically took the Galaxy game platform for Galaxy 2, unlike the other two which were totally standalone.

I actually thought the plot device for Sunshine was really really enjoyable. I liked playing a Mario game that wasn't so segmented from everything else.

I mean, I'd still argue that the Galaxy series are both really heavy gameplay-only games. Look at how different each planet is. The only real connecting factor is that they all have crazy gravity mechanics.

Top - notch? Not even remotely close. It has the same simple 3 button gameplay it had 25 years ago, with a few tweaks here and there. It is FAR from top notch by today's standards. If i compare a game like Skyrim to Mario the difference is even bigger.

Its simple addicting and fun, but its nowhere near top notch.

(I assumed you were talking about 2D mario)

SMH...

@ HD, as people have already said, you've just  grown up. You can't expect the game to make you feel the same way you did when you were young. Kids/people nowadays who play Mario for the  first time feel the same way, nothing has really changed.

As for the whole story thing, what were you expecting exactly? For 2D Mario to have some ever-evolving story as the years go on? That was never gonna happen and I think it's for the better. I like that they keep it simple and subtle.

Finally, the whole industry not praising Nintendo and giving them awards thing...who gives a shit? Last thing I want is Nintendo conforming to the ideals of the shitty  industry media just so they can get their praise. If that stuff is so important to you, then just play whatever games the gaming media are raving about.

What?

Thought the same thing. The new Marios dont capture the magic that the NES-N64 games had.

Same world design, no progression at all in trying to expand the lore, if you can even call it that. And personally....they have become too easy to the point that a 4 year old can amount 99+ lives in no time.

Yeah, I already called you out on this before. Most, if not all, of the criticism you apply to the new games also holds true for your darling Super Mario World. It's actually even easier, because the game allows you to play levels partially and keep the lives and power-ups you attained while all of the NSMB games erase your progress, if you exit a level through the pause menu.

Fair enough, but I stand by that the new Marios just dont have that "magic" for me.

Well, that's a given, because you've become a religious follower of the box.

I consider myself more like a military title, rather then a theological title. Xbox = military hierarchy like Halo promotions. PS - religious hierarchies

But that comment would apply to Sony. This is Nintendo, and all though I dont game on them anymore, I bear no ill will towards it.
