Do you call yourself a "gamer"?

My own input: I don't really see people tying their identity so much with their hobby, other than with video games.

I mean, you have occupations: "I'm a pilot", "I'm a firefighter", "I'm a programmer", etc. Which is understandable because that's what you're doing for the majority of your day and life.

The only hobby I could think of was: "I'm a skater". But to me, "skater" also was associated with a bunch of other qualities and was pushed as some kind of lifestyle. Same thing with "surfer".

Is this the same thing with "gamer" then? That we all have some kind of thing in common, OTHER than playing video games (to be honest, I don't play that much anymore).

And those other qualities, I have a suspicion that they're not really positive.

I mean, you essentially have two options:
1) "Gamer" as anti-video game lobbyists use it
2) "Gamer" as in how the video game industry/journalists use it, which sort of feels commercialized. I mean, I sort of associate the term with all those "game news" videos with women in them, or stuff like Spike TV/G4 TV (I mean, Esquire) trying to make "gamers" feel like cool, hipster, popculture/tech savy, "nerds".

To me, "gamer" is just as bad as "girl gamer". It's trying to create some kind of category out of nothing.

Not after watching that I don't.

I guess I do call myself a gamer.

Edit: Not on the level that guy in the video is talking about.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Think people playing video games kinda ruined the term for hunters (both real and fictional) lol

I rather call myself not. Mostly after reading some threads about "which console has a 'larger' ram".
But, I guess, I am one.

Ok. Serious post now.

This guy needs help, and in no way should represent gamers. This is a guy who:

1. Refuses to grow up and accept life responsibilities
2. Sees video games as a form of escape to the point where its a crutch to block out the real world.
3. He plans to mooch off his parents, since he has no plans to move out or get a high paying career, etc.
4. Values artificial accomplishments over real world milestones.
4. Comparing the love of a video game character to the real, enduring love of a person. WOW

Ever heard of getting a good job, married, and house and gaming during your spare time, only offcourse after youve spent some quality time with your girl? This guy will never appreciate a view from a Caribbean destination, or a small European town in the hills, or any nature made wonders.....instead he values beauty of video game code.

There is so much wrong with this guy and video. You should never place gaming above anything real in life. This guy needs to grow up, and fast.

Probably the most counterproductive video I have ever seen.
