It is a good idea (cost wise for the developers/publishers) however....

You end up with games like DmC and Star Fox Assault.

Those developers were Japanese/Western.

Well can you give us an example of a well known or somewhat known developer from India or China? Not saying there isnt any, I just dont know especially from India lol.

No one has put a team together there so it's impossible to know until then. China makes knock-off games and India has many people skilled with computers, I don't know why it couldn't be done if they try. They could even train them. Easter Europe would be a great start because they already have the skills and creativity.

no not outsource. create new ip in those countries. it would bring in more revenue.

Am I the only one who liked Star Fox Assault? :(

I was really disappointed with SFA.

I loved the beginning even though it may of been a watered down version of the first two original games however.....

The fact that it was a third person shooter....and a very clunky one I just didnt like it.

I got through a few levels - I'm planning to get back into it some day since I wanna finish my GCN collection.

Edit: I did enjoy Star Fox Adventures since it reminded me of Zelda and loved the music/visuals...hated that test I had to do at the end or near the end though >.>.

Well it's been a long time since the last time I played it. Maybe if I played it now I won't like it as much lol. One thing I remember not liking about the game is that it's too short, there are only like 10 missions in the game.

OT: Outsourcing surely reduces cost. But the guys that are paying the bills will have to really trust in the guys they are hiring. Outsourcing may not warranty a quality product which they need in order to recover the investment. It's kinda like a double-edge sword I guess.

Better idea: relocate all development to Eastern Europe, where there are skilled workers that speak English and prices are still very low.

Well, that was pretty much what I meant.

Why keep the creative element in the US then? Witcher, Arma, Stalker, Metro 2033 show that all of the work can be done there.

Exactly what I was thinking. Some people are too elitist, thinking only USA and Japan developers are good. What was the last awesome thing done by Square-Enix? What about Gearbox Software's unstable quality level? And Bethesda Softworks' abysmal quality control?

Well, I'm going to work, so I won't be able to participate from now.

Ultimately, it's one of the few ways we can keep this AAA thing going while reducing budgets, possibly by more than 50%, and make the industry sustainable again.

Either that or drop the whole AAA thing altogether, of course.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

Reasons why that should never happen:

- Costs domestic developers hundred to thousands jobs. There would be no need for a development house.
- The chances of the quality being higher domestically is much higher.
- It will turn gaming into a cheap mill.
- Its artistically dishonest and doesn't represent the area in which the game isn't being created (WRPG vs JRPG argument).
- Different countries have signature work styles. Japanese tier system vs the western merit system.

If everyone keeps thinking like a capitalist to the tenth degree most game developers in the west will eventually because the Asian market is cheaper. Look at what is happening to the west right now in the corporate world as a result. It is not a model to be followed in the best interest of all parties.

Already happens, and has been for many years. Tose are one of the best known, yet still obscure options for outsourcing.

We know developing a console game is very expensive these days, and we know that like 90% of the budget goes to paying salaries. There are simply too many man hours needed to develop a game. Imagine you have a 100 man team earning an average $80k a year, working for two years, and you already have $16m there.

Why the hell are you making games with 100 man teams?

To me, that's the bigger problem. Letting the development costs spiral out of control in the first place. Taking two years with a 100 man team to make a single game is just absurd.

I really wish you could swear on this site but for now ill have to settle with saying you suck and this post infuriates me, thousands of people would lose their jobs and we would have to play games made in china, which is not at all known for their quality and we would be losing a great american(and other countries that aren't crappy unlike china) industry. We would feel disconnected from the developers, they wouldn't listen to our feedback, and we would be giving power to the horrible(for many reasons, go on reddit to see what theyre doing to bears)country of china. This is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. You're lack of caring about all of these jobs is extremely annoying.
