PS1 controllers were interchangable on the PS2. I remember using non-dual shock controllers to play Tekken Tag when the PS2 first came out. Even PS2 controllers can be used on PS3 if you purchase the right adapter. In both cases, their is a benefit to using the new controller so they didn't really miss out on extra revenue.

That kinda defeats the purpose of a console, does it not? I love playing on PC and Steam has made it fairly convenient now, but consoles were always about being plug n' play. Easy to setup and quick to get into a game. Mandatory installations, whilst beneficial for speed, is also taking some of the more annoying parts of PC gaming and putting them into consoles.

Man, I thought the Wii U wasn't that innovative... Um... can I have a Wii U pleasse? Face it Americans are "physically lazy" if this doesn't pertain to you don't take it heavily. We're not going to willingly jump in the air numerous times just to see the character on the screen do it. Kinect was cool but I didn't think they'd make it so important to the nextbox.

PS3 controllers will work with PS4, that's been confirmed in one of the rumors. They use Bluetooth technology so you can thank Sony for that.
About Kinect, if someone doesn't want it, they shouldn't be forced to pay for it, let alone plug it in and use it. It's ridiculous.
