For JRPGs and Shooters? Get a Vita. Both will probably have a good selection of JRPGs but Vita will have much better shooters control wise and power wise. Killzone Mercenary will be coming out this year and that looks really good, right now you are probably better off with Unit 13 for TPS or Resistance Burning Skies for a FPS, but you could skip them. I can't recommend CoD:BO:D for what should be obvious reasons, unless you have friends to play it with regularly.

You can grab Persona 4 Golden and Disgea 3 as a good start, more will come over the years, though you will be missing out on Fire Emblem on 3DS.

You can also just get PS+ or the bundle that comes with a year of PS+ and just live of those offerings, picking up must buy titles when they arrive.

Yeah their was a bundle on amazon for a 3G PS Vita with Unit 13 voucher with 1 year of PS Plus for 299.99 I should probably buy that bundle instead of just the wifi vita. 

PS Vita: Persona 4 Golden and sign up for PS+ for some variety while you wait for Killzone Mercenary. Vita has many others shooters but I don't play them so I can't recommend any other than Uncharted.

For the 3DS I'd be tempted to get Fire Emblem but I would guess Vita has more shooters.

Why not get both.

I am getting both I'm hoping that the fire emblem bundle for the 3DS stays available from gamestop for two more days to get it and I'm getting the PS vita bundle they have on amazon. 

The PS+ makes that a good deal as 3G is really a if you want it kind of thing (though it does give you a GPS advantage over the wifi version if I remember correctly). I think it also comes with an 8GB card? Maybe not, but just try and utilize  a computer or PS3 to store data and shuffle it until memory cards drop in price. Just remember to add PS+ games to your download list by "purchasing" them so you can access them after they leave PS+. On Vita they auto download unless you don't have room, you can cancel downloads though, or just "purchase" them on a PS3 or the new web based PS Store.

EDIT: oh and even physical 1yr PS+ cards will bag you an extra 3 months this month

Thanks for the tips really appreciated can't wait to get a Vita. (I can't shake this feeling that the price is going to drop soon lol)
