Forums - Microsoft - Should I get a xbox for knights of the old republic and jade empire?

I love Mass Effect and I really want to play more Bioware games. I guess knights of the old republic has problems running on current PC hardware and I'm not used to PC gaming anyways. So should I pick up a cheap used xbox or try to get these games on PC?

They're only a few monies on steam and I had no issues playing either on pc, so I would recommend you get them on PC and play with an Xbox 360 pad if a keyboard and mouse dont feel right for yourself. If they don't have official pad support then a program such as Xpadder wil sort that out.

Hmm I had the PC version and didn't experience anything wrong at all.

But I'm sure there are fixes on the internet if there are any, anyways.

No cause KOTOR is compatible with the 360 if you have one

If you've got an 360 they're backward compatible and play pretty good.

I thought they had a ton of bugs playing on the 360.

Kotor on Xbox is a phenomenon. The story is top tier. So much back story to how the androids came to exist. It takes place before the empire killed the republic. Can't say enough good things about the story. Gameplay revolutionary as well.

I didn't play much jade empire though I own it. Xbox is a good piece of hardware. You can find a very nice Logitech wireless controller but the dpad is plasticky. Go for it!

In reference to your other comment. there are some issues with KotoR has on PC, but it's mainly a windows 7 and there's a way to fix it. i played both of them a few months ago, and I have windows 7-x64 etc.

they'd still have ton of slowdown xbox.  There's more bugs fixed on the PC version. As for whether or not the 360 causes extra bugs I'm not sure.Kotor has a lot better textures too on PC, I'm not sure about Jade Empire because I've never played the PC.

If you have a desktop computer. If you put a 50 dollar videocard you could run it.

Also you could play a lot more bioware games like neverwinter nights, baulder's gate II, etc.

Given your experience level with PC gaming you would probably be better off purchasing a used Xbox 360 rather then trying to find a old original Xbox, or original game discs. Seeing as you can download both games off of the Xbox Live Marketplace. I have had some issues playing the PC version. Specifically newer drivers for my graphics card for whatever reason caused the game to lock up, and the only way to resolve the problem was to actually install much earlier drivers onto my system.

Hopefully that wouldn't be a issue for you, but if that ends up being the case it can be a real chore tracking down the driver especially for such a old game. That all said you should also be mindful of the fact that this particular developer isn't known for its great technical skills. Even Mass Effect had a lot of non hardware related issues, and at least Knights of the Old Republic was no different. The game is going to lag out on you on occasion, and the load times are going to be on the long side.

P.S. Even though Knights of the Old Republic 2 wasn't made by Bioware. If you like the first game you will likely enjoy the second game.
