I'm looking to upgrade my phone in the next month but WP8 is looking increasingly attractive as it seems to offer more bang for it's buck (i currently have an Android), especially on lower end phones. You lot may say get an iPhone or the Galaxy note II or any other high end phone, but i'm going to be a university student from October, so probably won't be able to afford them.

I was looking specifically at the Nokia Lumia 620, which is only £170 unlocked~http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/products/phone/lumia620/

Although, the Nexus 4 is only £280, unlocked and isn't sold out anymore!~ https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb

Also, i'm getting it unlocked to save some money

It may seem obvious to you, but what one would you get and why? Also, if you have Nexus 4, does the screen crack easily like iDevices do or not?

Also, if there are any other phones for under £300/ $400, please mention them.

If you are willing to pay 280GBP you could also look for a Galaxy SII. I bought mine for 250GBP a few months ago, so you might find it even cheaper somewhere.

Where is the 620 sold for 170 quids?? I was browsing prices for this phone last week and Amazon had it at 270 EUR/220GBP.

It's £220 unlocked, but it's £170 on pay as you go on my phone network, three

200 EUR is nice price for this phone... but I would delay my purchase a bit until MWC, a few insteresting phones could be announced there.

Mentioning Lumia 620 in the same sentence as the Nexus 4 is a crime. The only thing that will be better is the battery life.

Lumia 620 is crazy value for the price compared to what you're getting. Front facing camera, dualcore snapdragon s4+ and design and build quality that puts those cheap Samsung devices to complete shame.

Engadget went nuts over the 620 on their mobile podcast it the other day...said itll easily be on the top 10 best smartphones list.

A phone with a  800X480 3.8 inch screen won't be in any top ten smartphones list if it is not Apple. I really dislike the physical appearance also but I guess it differs from person to person.

For the price performance will be superb of course. You can't get a krait at that price anywhere else. I am considering one for my mother.
