Dear Sony and Microsoft.

Please do not release your next gen systems until you are prepared to support them with games.

Thanks,

Ubisoft said Vita is 15-20% digital (ubisoft games obviously), with digital being more important in USA than Europe. Since UK is much like USA, I'd be inclined to think digital sales for Vita there are around 20%. Don't know about WiiU.

This would improve the numbers slightly from 46k to 57.5k. So just over 10k digital sales perhaps. At least that's way better than PSP did last year

I'm not sure it'll be as high as 20% in UK, but maybe I'm wrong.

The thing I'm having trouble working out (because it involves a lot of maths and figures we don't have) is where do downloadable-only games factor into all this.  So Ubisoft said 15-20% digital sales, but they only release retail games AFAIK, so that's 15-20% on top of their retail sales.

So that wouldn't count download-only stuff like - for example - Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath & EDF 2017 Portable for Vita, and indeed Trine 2 etc. for Wii-U.

So I believe the actual number - counting titles like these - would be a few thousand more still.

edit: Although, it would be the same for every console, perhaps better in fact for PS360 who have more established download-only titles.  Was just trying to bolster Wii-U and Vita figures a little :P

Now let's look at the detail.

Nintendo vs non-Nintendo:

Total Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2012 - 999k
Total non-Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2012 - 1779k

Total Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2013 - 467k
Total non-Nintendo platform sales in Jan 2013 - 1644k

Nintendo YoY decrease - 53.3%
Non-Nintendo YoY decrease - 7.6%
Non-Nintendo YoY decrease consoles only - 3.5%

So, is it the UK market that's dead, or Nintendo that's dead in the UK?

I hope this myth that gaming is dead in the UK ceases to exist, it's Nintendo that are in serious decline. A new generation of consoles from Sony and MS would more than fix the current problems for their own decline.

Guys does these include digital sales?

doubt it, but they are still pretty tiny so these sales from PC down are garbage.  The most you could add to anything, other than PC, is 10 to 15%

it was namco (i think) that stated in their latest financials that digital was ~26% of their revenue and up ~225% YoY.

maybe i'm just biased cause i have like 15 digitial games for vita but i feel like vita's % might be slightly higher than other systems.  there is a lot of advantange to not having to carry a bag of cartrigdes around on a mobile device that makes digital very appealing.  ..a lot moreso than a home device at least.

Wat. So many months without a game. What the hell are they thinking.

Scribblenauts was supposed to come out today. It got delayed earlier this week with no new date given. Then of course there's the Rayman situation.

7 and 8 years between systems. They must have something really awesome cooked up. I mean, MS have almost abandoned 360 in terms of first party support already so they're surely cooking up many 720 games.

MS never had a ton of first party games to begin with so this year's drought isn't all that abnormal.  sony, on the other hand, have pupeteer, rain, beyond, GoW:A, sly 4, and TLoU releasing this year.  that's at least 4 teams not putting anything on ps4 in the first 12 months of it's lifecycle.

hmm monster hunter might be interesting, but not a big system seller in the west.
lego city looks interesting, idk maybe a small system seller.

but those games are end march :(

What's pretty crazy is the Wii U couldn't even make up for the 3DS decline, much less start tackling the Wii's.  Nintendo is really in a rough place in the UK.  When there have been four retail releases on Wii U

Ninja Gaiden
NBA 2K13
Sing Party
Marvel Avengers

and they all barely made a blip, I can understand Ubisoft's desire to delay Rayman.  Not even just the sales potential, but simply convincing retailers to order it.  When most stores have probably been selling single digit numbers of Wii U games per week, why would they stock a large amount of Rayman.
