http://www.destructoid.com/sony-cuts-ps-vita-sales-target-cites-lack-of-penetration-244253.phtml

The sad ballad of the PlayStation Vita continues to ring its mournful tune in taverns across the kingdom, with Sony now lowering its sales forecast in light of its failure to achieve "market penetration." This is not the first time this has happened.

In May of last year, Sony expected the Vita and PSP to sell a combined 16 million units, which was lowered to 12 million in August, then 10 million in November. Now, Sony believes its handheld products will be able to push 7 million units before the end of March.

Portable sales were up in the final three months of 2012, climbing from 2.4 million systems to 2.7 million. Hardly an epic turnaround, and certainly not the Christmas decider Sony was expecting.

The platform holder remains confident in its home console market, sticking to its belief that it'll sell 16 million units by the end of the financial year in March. PS3 and PS2 sales enjoyed a combined 6.8 million sales last quarter, down from 7.4 million a year before. Console games sold 62 million units, compared to 69 million the previous year.

"In the digital imaging and the game businesses, which are positioned as core areas of the electronics businesses along with the mobile businesses, the shrinking market for compact digital cameras, due to the expansion of the smartphone market, and the slow penetration of the PlayStation Vita portable entertainment platform are recognized as particularly important issues," claimed Sony.

Sony needs to stop "recognizing important issues" and start actually doing something about them. I've held out hope for the PS Vita, fan of it as I am, for the past year now, and I'm officially through caring about the thing. It's a damp squib and Sony's done nothing to instill me with faith. It doesn't look like it has any faith itself in the system anymore.

You'd think the past five years would have at least taught Sony to stop sitting back and expecting problems to fix themselves, but it seems pathologically unable to break its habit of talking, talking, talking, without actually everfixing. It promises big changes, it says every single year that this will be the year it wins, it says it has these wonderful, long-term plans that we're too small to understand, but it doesn't do anything to demonstrate it has a plan at all.

No wonder Sony has so many loyal followers. It's the gaming equivalent of God at this point.

I personally have to agree with the bolded. The Vita is an incredibly nifty piece of kit which has just been pretty much negleted by Sony; something it can't afford to do with the PS4. It doesn't really matter though, because Sony can't fail apparantly. We will see. I wish the PS4 and the PSV the greatest success, but unless Sony actually starts doing something (and I mean something), then I don't see them staying around for long.

What about you? What do you think?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I don't see a problem. Nintendo only support WiiU for 5-6 years, so they can afford to ignore its "doom" until March.
Sony will support PSV for 10 years, so they can't start supporting much later.

Every year expectations are super high and come years end the year was not what ppl expected in January. happened every year this gen.

But in the end, its about fans loving Sony for cranking out game after game, regardless of how much people actually want them and money lost due to sales performances.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

My Take on the matter: to be freaking Blunt to the point,

lets see people want games made and fast but yet expect the freaking pace of a Nintendo 3DS budget game with better development of said software, but shorter point of time to get it all done?, well screw the d@mn media, and Gamer's with no d@mn patience on the matter. You get the same d@mn thing where is the killer software for the PSVita? well it's being freaking Made! It takes Time! the Development of Quick small budget Games can be made on the PSVita just like they could on the 3DS, but here is the thing, there already is those kind of experiences out there, the 3DS and smartphones and Tablet's.

Not saying those games are not fun, they are All Game's. but the budget to do something like TearAway, Killzone M. all take heavy investment.

Sony could have made a notch up Game handheld slightly above the PSPGo and still it would not made that much of an impact, the PSP damaged the perception of Sony's Handset, because software died to a stop in the West, and the fact that the PSPGo was such a failure the PSVita was not going to be strong in this market out the gate, even though the Hardware in the PSVita was really good the Perception of Sony's entire company as a whole has been damaged for viability of pretty much every market they are in. its going to get worse before it get's better, and Sony will streamline their company to remain in this market. Sony is no longer the powerhouse they once were. This was in effect the same for Apple not long ago.

Sony = Loss in Mind share and Market share

Nintendo and Microsoft = Rise in Market share at the expense of Sony

Apple and Samsung = Rise in Market share at the Expense of Nintendo and Microsoft and Sony in casual Mobile market Game's

this has been said folded spindled and mutilated about Sony as a whole since 2006 and it's true.

Sony has lost Marketshare and Mind share over all.

as a PS3 gamer, and as a Gamer in general i see no reason to not agree with that.

but on the same token, the many people on this forum that keep slamming Sony only fans you are looking just as petty as the people you are slamming right now.

that's just my Observation.

I AM BOLO

100% lover "nothing else matter's" after that...

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

Sonys brainwashing is rather effective.

Jim Sterling, I assume? Fuck him. Anyone who is "through caring" about the Vita with Soul Sacrifice and Ys and Killzone: Mercenary on the way never cared the thing to begin with.

Protip: play games, not sales, lard boy.

this is pure gold

I think Sony loyal fans are more like most sports fans.. saying that you like a team, but never actually go to a game, buy the jersey or spend any money on them.. but still complain about them when they played bad..

You really want to know what I think? You will not going to like it, but here it is:

That is not true. Sony did not neglected the VITA, they made a good handheld, with all the stuff people wanted, realeased good games (Wipeout, Uncharted, Persona 4, Gravity Rush, Fifa, Unit 13, etc, etc) and gave it an ok price for what the product is.

It failed.

That happens, people don´t want this powerful handheld, they simply don´t want it.

Lower the price, you say to me. It will not work. Sony is at bankrupcy doors, if anything, they should UP THE PRICE and try to make a little tiny profit on the thing, selling millions of sutff at loss will only speed up the doom.

I have and love the Vita, but it failed. THEY ARE GIVING ME FREE GAMES with Psn Plus, like 6 of them, big budget titles too, and not even that worked. What else? Sony could pay a prostitute to give a blowjob for every Vita buyer, and even that would not work.

I like Sony because they treat me like royalty, they spoil me, give me the games I always wanted and sometimes they literally GIVE ME FREE GAMES AND OTHER STUFF.

But, Vita failed, that is the sad true.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

That's actually a very good comparison IMO.
