CD Projekt Red reveals new sales milestone for role-playing game series; first two games now on sale.

The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red announced today that the role-playing game series has now sold more than 5 million copies, up from 4 million last summer.

According to company CEO Adam Kicinski, the 2012 Xbox 360 debut of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was a major contributor to the increased sales.

Sales could have been even higher. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has beenillegally downloaded 4.5 million times, according to CD Projekt Red, and the company has stopped pursuing pirates.

To celebrate the new sales milestone, CD Projekt Red has dropped the price of The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 to $30. In addition, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut ($5) and The Witcher 2 ($10) are 50 percent off through GOG and Steam until February 8.

CD Projekt Red yesterday officially announced The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. The third and final episode in Geralt of Rivia's story, the open-world game is 30 times larger than The Witcher 2 and is due out in 2014 for unspecified "high-end" platforms.

Well then. Vgchartz has the entire series under tracked apparently.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

If you guys dont realize, Vgchartz has it at only 1.76. not only does this show how well PC sells are doing but i think vgchartz needs to learn to track PC sales. Either that or the X360 version of Witcher 2 is undertracked.

I'm aware that a lot of this is digital, but Im just saying.  The whole PC is dead topic is annoying for this exact reason.

good for them. hope the witcher 3 sells 5 million units by itself

Just like any other older PC game. Also this includes digital sales.

You can't use VGC data for older PC games, since most of them don't have any sales or are highly incomplete. We only started tracking PC sales a year and a half ago maybe, so the original Witcher doesn't have any sales.
The rest (primarily Witcher 2) is digital.

Really wish I could have played 1 & 2 as I only own all of the Nintendo and Sony platforms. I ended up youtubing 1 & 2 and they were incredible. Should Witcher 3 be on PS4 it's a Day 1 for me.

PSN: Saugeen-Uwo     Feel free to add me (put Vg Chartz as MSG)!

Witcher wasn't nearly as popular as witcher 2 though was it?  Im assuming that around 75% of those sales are from Witcher 2.  Which would probably put Witcher 2 around 3m

Gotta try The Witcher 2 sometime.
