Forums - Gaming - Wii U graphics power finally revealed - "we can now finally rule out any next-gen pretensions for the Wii U"

The Wii U is good enough for Nintendo's IP.

Even to max out a PS3/360, it would take a developer a massive budget to do so (see 343 Studios and Halo 4). Let alone the Wii U which is apparently modestly more powerful, but still another step forward.

Nintendo is conservative with their development budgets, they're not going to spend $100 million on any game, not even a Zelda or Mario game.

Maybe some day down the line they can release a Wii U Slim that allows for 1080p output/display for newer games, I'd be OK with that (kinda like a DS to DSi bump).

Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc. will look great on the Wii U. I'm OK with that.

Nintendo will show their next 3D Mario and Zelda and this talk of specs is very quickly going to fade into obscurity because they will look awesome.

My only concern is that if the architecture is significantly different from the other next-gen rivals then it will give third parties, who already don't need much of an excuse, more of a reason to not bother porting games for the Wii U.

Oooh, yes, you and your conspiracy theories =)

They are more reasonable than the belief that third parties are not biased against Nintendo and therefore it's Nintendo's fault when a Nintendo console doesn't receive good third party support. There's an enormous amount of prejudice when it comes to Nintendo consoles.

Did you ever read the story behind Tekken Tag Tournament 2's development for the Wii U? The director (or producer) proposed his ideas for the Wii U version to Nintendo and was surprised that Nintendo declined and insisted that they wanted a good game.

The thing is that developers are lazy... They couldn't be bothered to make anything unique for the Wii, so they didn't do anything at all. Except for Ubisoft, and they sold a shit ton of Just Dance and Skylanders. But looking at sales of other "core" games on Wii made by Ubisoft, it didn't sell gang busters; Red Steel 2 (I'm not gonna talk about the first game, since it seems really bad). That's quite a good game, and it got good reviews - but Wii owners didn't bother picking it up. I think it sold 1m or so... But why don't you go a head and post some of your points as to why/how 3rd parties are biased to Nintendo? I'm sincerely curious!

And I have heard that story about Tekken, and couldn't believe what I was reading. Seemed to incredibly stupid!!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

No wonder everyone is calling for a price drop. Current gen tech at that price is ludicrous.

I guess X was just CG then

damn you Nintendo how can you show us a huge world that looks better on a system that is weaker and renders on two screens!

X looks amazing for current gen hardware but do not fool yourself to think it is next gen quality.

very true, but looking at last gen - which console(s) got the most of 3rd party support?

Should give you a hint that it's not about sales either.

Wii - 100 mil

PS360 - 140 mil

So it is about sales. Most importantly about software sales though, not hardware, but still. Nobody wants to pay the same amount of money for a watered down port of what they can play on a different console. If PS4/Xbox8 will be simmilar to each other and quite close to what PC's offer, as the rummors say, the Wii U will be left out again no matter what Nintendo does. These are the rules of the game, Nintendo consciously ignores the rules and gets punished for it. They really can't complain, that's what happens when you decide to choose your own path.

??

You do realize PS360 isn't a single console right?

Nintendo consciously ignored the rules and was rewarded for it -- twice! -- last generation. Who knows what the eighth generation will bring, but what you write isn't true at all.

Wii was "underpowered" and largely ignored by high-profile third-party developers. And yet it outsold Xbox 360 and PS3.

Why does Nintendo pain you so?

PS360 is not a single console, but they form a single market. You just have to make an exact port and have 140 million potential clients, none of which will feel like they are getting damaged goods. You can also add the PC crowd to it and the market grows even bigger.

Nintendo is choosing it's own path, it's Nintendo that ignores the mainstream, so the mainstream in response ingores Nintendo. If they are rewarded for it, then why do people complain? Why are you implying that Nintendo "pains" me? I'm just stating the facts and you're not even trying to challenge them, instead you're repeating what I've said and think that you made some kind of argument for yourself. Seems like you're the one in pain here.

Wii outsold competition hardwarewise. But when it comes to software it's no longer the case. The adoption rate on Wii is the worse out of these 3 consoles.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

For the last time, the argument of "Wii is not an 8th generation" console is an argument out of ignorance, and fails because of the ignorance. Look up "generation" in the dictionary. It has to do with the time of release, not how many hertz the processor is. Since the Wii U was released after the Wii and is the successor to the Wii, we can logically deduce that it belongs to the 8th generation of consoles, which also includes Vita and 3DS, and later the PS4, and Xbox 361.

depends on the point of view.

and the technicall point of view is more defined by moore's law than the time of release.

vita and 3ds are not eight generation.Game +Watch>gameboy>gameboy advance>DS>3ds(even if you count Virtual boy as handheld the 3ds is max. 5th gen .

There is no point of view.

If you are taller then your children are they somehow last gen? No, because they succeed you. Like Jumpin said, look the word up in the dictionary. This is the most ridiculous argument ever.

Billions of profit in the past years ,the smallest and cheapest top developer teams and the only thing they were really
investing money in was to make monster hunter and dragon quest nintendo exclusiv.

And Bayonetta 2, and Fatal Frame, and The Last Story. And Cross-franchise games like Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem (which is going to be more common, according to Iwata, with more already in development). And publishing games like Ninja Gaiden 3 and The Wonderful 101. And explicitly announcing that they'll support any developer who comes up with an innovative for the Wii U's hardware.

And I got banned for saying the Wii U wasn't next gen....

It was obvious from it's load power consumption that it was not next gen aka on par with the next-box and PS4. Nice to have it verified from a different source though.

It is next gen. It is more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3. Was the PS2 not in the 6th generation, because it wasn't on par with the GameCube or Xbox? Generations are about what time they are released, not power.

Add me! :)

i don't trust eurogamer. They have had an agenda against the wii u from the begining. I will let the games do the talking.

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.
