I'm undecided what I think of the rumors of the new PS4 controler. The idea that it will have a small touch screen on it.
On the negative side, it seems like a half-ass attempt to mimic what is offered on WiiU. It won't be able to do what the WiiU screen can do. The WiiU GamePad is essentially a tablet for your living room and makes a great screen to play a game on. The PS4 option seems like a blatent copy (like dualshock's analog sticks, like Move), but not good enough to really change things up. Possibly an unnecessary cost.
On the positive side I think of dual shock/N64. Nintendo introduced the analog stick on N64 in what was somewhat a cumbersome arrangement. It changed 3D gaming and broke boundaries, but it was a bit awkard...do you hold the controler in the middle?... that's weird... Then Dualshock came along, added a second stick in a neat and tidy package and became the gaming standard. The PS4 controller may pull this off. It's screen may offer some of the good features offered in the Gamepad (I'm thinking picking plays in madden, typing in words if it's a true screen) but it be neater, tidier and cheaper than Nintendo's controller. It could also be the only controller, and offer the same options to all players without the screanless pads being needed at all. A screen on a dualshock would also help the PS4 to look modern and cool and not low-tech next to the Gamepad. What do you think?
