Forums - Sony - Sony Q3 FY2012 - $124m loss, PS3+PS2 6.8m, PSV+PSP 2.7m

In last Q, I bought one PS3 Super Slim with 500GB, one Sony a70 digital camera, one Sony Xperia Tablet S. Sony, I have helped you a lot although I am a X360 fans. This month, I plan to get the new Sony Xperia Z smartphone.

I predict last Q, Sony shipped 5.8~6.2million PS3 to put PS2 about 0.6~1.0million.

People say PS2 was discontinued in last Q, so the shipment will be less. But according to my experience of production, normally, the shipment figure might be increased.

Sony may produced more PS2 and ship all of them to retail channels in one shot to make them available for certain time and inform the market this will be the last batch production of PS2.

Anyway, this is jut my thought.

I agree but I can see PS2 shipping more than last year... 0.9m.

Ps3 still over 1.5m behind 360 in shipments I think. IDC are a bit silly and that thread about 77m was, as predicted, even sillier.

Still over? that's smaller than what VGC is showing. Gap is shrinking my friend. Now you said you would call for adjustments for the Ps3 when shipments came out and it appears both Ps3 and 360 are undertracked by the same amount.

Yep.  Both 360 and PS3 need about 700k adding on.

Now... im off to find that 77m thread....

70M by the end of Oct, +6.8M = 77M, it's easy to understand why they said 77M and easy to understand why they missunderstood the datas (they didn't tke into account that PS2 was counted in and that 70M is like one month in the quarter (Sept->Oct). SO could you please stop with that like it was something ERMAHGERD they were wrong? Thx

The shipments thing will take some sorting out... if we ever can. Sony ain't playing ball for some reason.

On the financials...

Pretty bad. I was expecting much better. As were analysts. No idea how the market reacts to this?  I expect probably quite neutral about it for now.

Nothing in their financial report has proven to me that they are on the road of a recovery. Furthermore, Sony will post a profit for year-end based on them selling their assets - It's still a money losing business. I expect a miminum drop off of 3% tomorrow you?

Well... It might take a while for this to sink in.

The problem may be stored up for later as sony are maintainin gtheir forecast on profits, even though they have reduced their forecast for unit sales in almost every area.  So if sony are still predicting a profit and they dont make one, even after selling of assets (buildings), then the headlines will murder them come April and the shares will tank all over again.

But yes the underlying fundamentals are still broken.  More selling off and shrinking required.

Also, playstation doesnt look anywhere near as attractive as a standalone business any more.

Correct. Net profit was 6 million for the gaming division this quarter, not something to boast about; though the ongoing costs for RD did negatively impact their results. Once the PS4 hits, I expect negative returns.

The only positives I saw from this report were their financial business, arguably their most prominent and profitable division. Nonetheless, how can one post such results as Nintendo and Panasonic posts profits because of the weaker yen? There is something wrong in regards to their spending habits.

Few days later when PS2 sale will completely stop, it will be interesting to see how Sony announces their financial (Maybe with combined PS3 + PS4 sales?).

Well only PS3 numbers until Q3 2013... after PS3+PS4.

where is the official announcement that PS2 stopped?

No official PR from Sony.

6.8 PS3+PS2
2.7 PSV+ PSP

Sounds pretty good for the PS3... (unless the whole 1.2 PS2 thing actually is real).

HORRIBLE for Vita though.

I think people are oversestimating the loss.  I think the street expecting a loss.  Market will probably just shrug it's shoulders.

PS3: 7.4m
PS2: 1.2m
PSV: 3.3m
PSP: 1.1m

Like always I'm bad with PS3 predictions... at least with 360 and Wii/Wii U I was really near (~100k off).
