That is a very easy statement to prove false, as I would really want it

Also, I would argue the game was very underrated.  The fact that it is one of the few original xbox games that are available on xbox live proves that the game has a following!

The game probably lost tons of money on the original X-Box they put it on live to recoup some of their losses.

how could it have lost tons of money?  games back then only needed to sell like 100k to make a profit and it sold 700k

I'm pretty sure that the average game had to sell a lot more then a 100K to make a profit last generation.  Also Jade Emipire was a lot more ambitious then your average game last generation so I'm sure it was a lot more expensive to make.

no, 100k was generally the break even point last gen, look

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27932/Report_Wii_Holds_47_Percent_Of_Global_Console_Revenue.php#.UQxHEb80WSo

This go through some of the costs of this gen and last gen.  It talks about how game development costs rose from 3-5 mill a game to 15-30mil a game.  For a game that costs 15 mil it would have to sell 500k to break even and 30 mil would be 1 mil to break even.  Now, lets just for the sake of argument say Jade Empire cost 15 mil to make (3 times the average cost to make a game).  It would have to sell around 500k to break even, which it did.  It was also published by microsoft which meant they didn't have to pay a licensing fee, so even more profit.  Not to mention all the sales and money made off of the pc and xbox 360 ports.  Jade Empire has more than likely sold over a million units...

Basically, there really isn't anyway the game lost money.  Heck, even most games that sell 700k this gen make money.

Even if it made money it obviously didn't make enough money to warrant a sequel.

I'll say it right now, Jade Empire is easily my favorite Bioware RPG, and possibly my favorite non-Elder Scrolls Western RPG. I don't care how much in the minority I am, but I'd take it anyday over the ME games or KOTOR. It had loads of character and charm and the combat was some of the most absolute fun and cool to use I've ever seen in an RPG. So yeah, I would totally flip for a sequel.

Oh yes!
Loved the first one, and i love the eastern martial arts setting.

With that said, given EA is at the helm now, i dont see it happening.

I'm sure Jade Empire made enough to get a sequel, games have gotten sequels on much less.  However, I think Microsoft was more interested in pushing new IP's out at the start of the 360 generation rather than relying on IP's from the xbox generation.

Then EA bought Bioware and ran with the more successful Mass Effect Franchise.  If you look at the link I posted, Bioware hasn't ruled out returning to Jade Empire, so I don't think Jade Empire did that bad for them.

I seem to come across people asking for a sequel a lot. There used to be a writer for one of the bigger review sites, I can't remember which, who championed it all the time and a lot of people would leave comments agreeing.

I wouldn't put much trust in that article it didn't even get the released date for the game right.  It was released on April 12th, 2005 not in 2004.

Jade Empire 2 would be profitable if made, I have no doubts. Not as profitable as a ME4 or a KOTOR 3 but it would sure as hell be a lot more interesting.

One mans opinion equals nobody wants it ?

Only because one person mentioned it as a possible "dream" launch game for the 720 doesn't proof that people actually want it either.  Anyway Bioware has moved on to bigger and better thinks with Mass Effect so I doubt they will revive Jade Empire.

Sorry I was adding stuff  to my first post before I saw your reply , still two wrongs don't make a right.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

OK, but that doesn't have anything to do with what the Bioware guy said.  Do you like this one better?
